| UCLA's choice Posted by Scoob I accidentally posted this on the SEC Rant; so here it is:  on 11/17 at 10:57 pmStanford just knocked Oregon out of the BCS game. Now, they play UCLA next week, with the Pac 12 North on the line. Remember, UCLA is already in the Pac 12 title game, win or lose. What they are doing is deciding who they play, to get a chance for the Rose Bowl. Remember this, too: UCLA is coached by Jim Mora Jr, a guy with NFL experience. He's used to rematches. He has a decision to make- does he play all-out to win, and face Oregon, with the best offense in the country; or does he play it crafty, and play to find Stanford's weaknesses? Consider this- most geniuses would say UCLA would be a closer underdog to Stanford than to Oregon; and Mora already knows how to play a rematch. He can scout Stanford out and see what they can do, and then get a second chance to play for real: for the Rose. Ideally, I'm sure he'd like to win out both games, but realistically, I can see him making the call to go 2-for-1 against Stanford. And there's nothing the NCAA can do about it. your thoughts? | Depends on the outcome of the Oregon-Oregon State game. If that game goes first, it comes down to if Oregon wins. If they win, I take the loss. If they lose, I go for the win. Plain and simple. Reply • Back to Top |

| If you are already in a championship game then you play to rest your starters. Period. You would treat it no different than how the NFL treats the end of the season once they are in and clinched home field. Just look at it like that before you post the play to win the game. Reply • Back to Top |
| I guess it will be a one-time situation, because I'm sure there will be some sort of rule put in if it happens. But basically, yeah, UCLA can decide this is a scrimmage against Stanford. Run a few plays, see if you can beat a corner or something, then rest the starters. Stanford will have to play to win, because they're out if they lose. UCLA just needs to decide they can physically play with them (obviously), and then maybe push the score enough that Stanford empties the playbook. Reply • Back to Top |

| As for the "you play to win the game" thought- You play for the season. You play for a national title; that's out. Then, if you're UCLA, you play for the Rose Bowl. Seriously. You don't play for the right to face Oregon in the Pac 12 Title game, you play for the right to play AT HOME IN THE GRAND-DADDY OF THEM ALL. Against, maybe, Nebraska, who you already beat.
