re: Replacing our DEs / Incoming DEsquote: They have those types of players, but those mocks are usually before the season starts. Kiper and McShay both updated their big boards. Both have them going in top 20. McShay has Mingo going #7 and Montgomery going #22. Kiper has Mingo going #13 and Montgomery going #14. I guess Kiper/McShay didnt get the memo about Mingo's lack of production Or maybe sometimes players get drafted based on potential Reply Back to Top |
| Kiper had Robert Royal in his top 5 at one point. Being in Kiper's list half a year before the draft doesn't mean anything. I'm sure you'll be calling them idiots if they drop Mingo further down their lists. Reply Back to Top |
| I'd be pretty pissed if my NFL team drafted Mingo in the first round FWIW Reply Back to Top |
| Mingo needs to come back to get bigger and stronger. He's definitely not 240 like he's listed, he's smaller than last year since he couldn't really work out all summer with the neck surgery. That combined with the ankle injury i think have affected him all year. IMO if he comes back and gets stronger he could have the year next year he was projected to this year and put himself right back in that conversation. Reply Back to Top |
quote: No, I actually wouldnt be. This started because someone responded to my OP and were saying they think Mingo is coming back next year and not going pro. Im just showing that he will be a 1st rounder and he will go. Thats all. Theres a lot of players I like ahead of Mingo and Sam. But, my post wasnt about when they get drafted. It was about when they leave the people we have coming in to replace them. Both of them are 1st rounders, both will leave. That was all. And, there is only 2 weeks until the regular season is over. After the season is over, its all combines and what not. If both test well, they both will go 1st round. Thats all Im saying. I want to talk about the incoming guys, not about where they get drafted. quote: I sort of agree here. As it stands I think Mingo is a late 1st/early 2nd. If he packed on 20 lbs like Sam M did last offseason and has an 8 sack season, he is top 10 without a doubt. But, even being a late 1st would be tough to turn down. I don't know why Mingo didn't put weight on over the offseason or whether he really tried. I believe he actually lost some weight. quote: I believe he got in a car wreck at the beginning of summer workouts and had neck issues, which forced him to not work out the rest of the summer. Reply Back to Top |
quote: not true. Stop the bull shite rumor. Talked to multiple Uhigh coaches and close family friends and this is the furthest thing from the truth. After Frank Wilson heard about this he personally called Tim to assure him it wasn't the truth. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Agreed. I think people saw Gilmore and Lacoture(SP) committed, and started thinking that we backed off of Williams because of this. Which is the furthest thing from the truth. Why would we pull the #1 played in LA, the guy who we have been recruiting the hardest, and plays the position that we most need this year scholarship?? Reply Back to Top |
quote: Saints fan?? If we get him late 1st rounder id be happy. His ceiling is as high as anyones in the draft. But, I say we still go best CB available. Doubt it will be Dee Millner, but would love to get Jonathan Banks. We need a 6'1 big body CB so bad. Reply Back to Top |

Posted by Cincinnati Bowtie on 11/13 at 9:45 am to KG5989 The same criticism of Mingo was given regarding Alden Smith. Don't think the 49ers are unhappy with him.Reply Back to Top |
| Smith had 11 sacks as a freshman. Does Mingo have 11 sacks in his career? Reply Back to Top |
| The Saints don't have Mingo's position on their defense. He will be an OLB in a 3-4. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Haha alright Maximus we get it. You dont like Mingo. We get it. And thats true about the Saints D scheme. I was just saying Id love for the Saints to get a pass rusher with elite athletic ability. Reply Back to Top |
| I could see us using a different rotation than we have in the past 2 years. With the guys that are currently behind Mingo/Sam, we could rotate several variations with size or speed...depending on the team that we are facing. I think that Rasco will be very similar to our current DE's by the time he leaves. Possibly Hunter too. A good question is...How many teams would our back-up DE's be starting on right now? Reply Back to Top |
quote: I can see us using that rotation too. Remember when Mingo and Sam were frosh and sophs?? They were rotating in to get them developed and ready by the time they were full time starters. I can see us doing that again with all the young DEs we have, but with Rasco remaining as the full time starter. Im sure Rasco would be starting at just about anywhere else in the country. And Hunter would most likely have early PT. Reply Back to Top |
Posted by Cincinnati Bowtie on 11/13 at 2:17 pm to Maximus Did Smith have to play in the SEC, where you can't just pin your ears back each play and rush the passer?Reply Back to Top |
quote: You're like the energizer bunny, you never get tired of showing off your ignorance and your penchant for picking out a particular LSU player and trying to run him into the ground. WTF man, what makes you so miserable? Do you honestly think that stats taken from a DE playing in the pass happy, lower competition level Big 12 are equal to the stats of a DE playing in the SEC? You can't be that stupid can you? Oh yeah I forgot, you can be that stupid because you are MAXIMUS!! Use your eyes you ignorant frick! Stats are meaningless in CFB because of the disparity in competition. If you were as good a judge of football talent as I am, your eyes would have told you all you need to know about Mingo and his ability. Reply Back to Top |
