Well a couple of the ESPN gurus are penciling Texas A&M in the fiesta now. Forget Florida only has 1 loss, not even mentioned. LSU was also left out of the conversation. Just like they shoved Alabama down our throats last year, the campaign has begun and they are the only voices the public gets to hear.

ESPN will continue to push this because that is what they want to see. The problem is whether they play Texas or Oklahoma, it is Big 12 football 2011. The committees will be trying to get the most lucrative and most intriguing draw. LSU pits defense versus Oklahoma offense. Besides, those two teams haven't met since 2003 (selling point). Oklahoma and aTm are virtually the same in style and played in the same conference against each other just last year. These committees are making a financial decision. The Red River shootout is still the biggest draw for a Texas team versus Oklahoma. They will test the match-ups and choose the one that reaches the most viewers in many cases, because it produces more ad buys.

Zach Mettenberger also benefited from the Alabama loss because of his play then and this weekend as well.

Look at the two recap opening paragraphs from the weekend:

aTm - Johnny Football and the SEC newbies from Texas A&M took down the biggest bully in their new neighborhood and left No. 1 Alabama with badly bruised national championship hopes.

LSU - Zach Mettenberger rifled accurate passes over the middle, lofted timing throws down the sideline and demonstrated for a second straight week that LSU could indeed move the ball through the air.

One paragraph sounds more marketable than the other.

A&m is a much more recognizable program than Baylor. And theyre sec.

So was Arkansas a couple of years ago. My comment was about whether a potential Heisman trophy candidate would, in this case, trump the marketability of a more heavily star-studded LSU squad going up against a team they don't usually match-up against. I don't think it's such a slam dunk in favor of A&M.

Committees also look for intriguing unlikely match-ups which will help draw in more viewers and more money.

I agree. I was just providing an alternative reasoning that they may or may not have.

...i may have been texas born, and truth is, i grew up in a devout longhorn family. so throw that grab in the dark out the window bro. my family hates a&m. personally, i'm not so biased, and while i still pull for texas, i am not grounded in longhorn homerism. i have not lived in texas for many many years. i never allow homerism to blind my objective views.

One prediction is suggesting that Texas may refuse to play in the Cotton if A&M is the opponent. I would not be surprised, but it would be dumb. But hey if ESPN gave me all that money, I could afford not to care.

Anyway, most predictions I have seen at this point still has LSU in the Fiesta, while fewer peg the Cotton. A&M seems to be Cotton or Chik-Fil-A. Georgia has to win to avoid the Cap One bowl. Florida could end up at the Chik-Fil-A or as high as the Fiesta. I am seeing many pick A&M for the Cotton, but keep in mind they have to be selected just like LSU would need to be which means Texas has to avoid acting like spoiled brats.

Jerry Jones is all over Texas vs aTm in his Cotton Bowl. I'm sure JJ will see that it happens.

...in case you have not noticed, texas a&m and johnnie football are the hottest topic on espn and other sports tv shows. so, right now they are pulling higher ratings than bama, and especially lsu. the lsu national talk is near zilch right now. and right now is what counts 100%...all other news about what lsu did back when may as well be ancient history. like i said, go outside of little ole' louisiana, and all the talk is a&m and Johnnie. no one is talking about lsu. i've been watching espn all day, and every show from bcs countdown to the all the rest, are giving more air time to a&m and Johnnie Football than any other team in the nation by a LARGE margin. some lsu fans need to wipe the tiger poo out of their eyes so they can see what is actually hgappening on the national stage.

Wow, you must not have enjoyed much success often like we have. It's the Monday after you just beat Bama. Of course that is what the media will spew over, but next week it will be something different. You are forgetting that we still have two SEC West schools to pounce....while you get a cupcake and the joke of the SEC. Cool your jets dude...there will be plenty of other things the media will start covering than just your Johnny boy. Sorry to burst your bubble on that

They probably will because they beat a NFL caliber team.

Alabama and UF are the two that are going to the BCS from the SEC this year.

There is no chance in hell that an 11-1 UF doesn't go to the BCS.

We might even lose to FSU and still be selected over LSU.

Saturday Down South supports their predictions pretty well here I think:

Sugar Bowl: Alabama
Fiesta Bowl: Texas A&M
Capital One Bowl: Georgia
Outback Bowl: Florida
AT&T Cotton Bowl: LSU
Chick-fil-A Bowl: South Carolina
Gator Bowl: Mississippi State
Music City Bowl: Tennessee
Liberty Bowl: Vanderbilt
BBVA Compass Bowl: Ole Miss
Independence Bowl: Missouri

To clarify Texas A&M to the Fiesta… at large teams don’t have to be the next best ranked team. So, Florida, Georgia, LSU can all still be ranked ahead of the Aggies, and the Fiesta can still take Texas A&M. And they will. It’s a better fit geographically. Johnny Manziel is going to be a Heisman finalist (at least). A&M fans will travel in droves to this game. LSU, Florida, Georgia? Not as much.

If Georgia beats Alabama in the SECCG, A&M still might still be the at large team over Alabama. Both would be two loss teams, and Alabama fans aren’t going to be excited about playing in the Fiesta. Not as much as A&M fans will be.

While I agree that winning out might get Florida a BCS over LSU, I do not think losing will do the same. Yes FL beat LSU, but you have played worse since then and LSU has played better. FL almost lost to Louisiana Lafayette. It also does not help Florida that they have the reputaion for being a fan base that does not travel. Fl never schedules a non-conferecne game outside the state. Their fan base is weak. Still, if they are a 1 loss team, they might go ahead of LSU. Still no gaurantee.

I grew up in a military household. We were taught to respect those that were different and there was no prejudice in our house. We never told a Polish joke or a jewish joke or made fun of any other group except for one. We told Aggie jokes and we told them by the ton, because as my dad said, they chose to be Aggies and anyone that would chose that deserves to be made fun of.

JFF does not equal Mingo, Montgomery, Minter, Hill, and Mettenberger. Marketing is about draw and selling ad buys. Draw is predicated by how many names you can sell. JFF is one. LSU is many.

..you are missing the boat... 95% of america can't tell you one name past mettenberger on the lsu team. nor can they tell you more than that on the a&m team, other than maybe ryan swope.

here is where tiger fans are missing the boat, Johnnie Football is not "just one name", he is "the name."

...seems i hit a nerve with you bro. some people hate the truth of matters, most often when their home team is involved, as is your case.

you were saying "you beat bama" and "you get a cupcake"... i'm not an a&m alum, fan, or anything of the sorts. i just call 'em like they are.

this would possibly be correct.

a&m may have to hope for a gator loss. a case is easily made for a&m at 10-2 to get a bcs berth over a 10-2 lsu team, but one can't warrant leaving out an 11-1 SEC team so easily. but, if given a pick 'em bet straight upon florida state vs florida, i'll take a ton of money on florida state.

florida state will be favored between 7 and 10 points in the game. florida state literally killed florida last season, and that is highly likely more ground than florida can conceiveably close up in a single season. so look for florida to fall from the bcs possibles also. that is most of the reason no one is chalking florida up for a bcs berth.
