| Modell was a greedy man. Moved the team just for the money and died with enough to live 10 lifetimes. Will be forever beloved in Cleveland. Not going to piss on his grave though. RIP Reply Back to Top |
| The move is what is keeping him out of the hall of fame. Reply Back to Top |
| Anyone care to post some of the friendly tweets? Reply Back to Top |
quote: The last game in Cleveland before the move, which was broadcast by NBC. Fans were carrying "frick Modell" signs. I'll never forget that. Reply Back to Top |
| Sorry, I got busy at work. I'll try to post some during lunch. The shite they were hashtagging was cracking me up. Stuff like #beenwaitingforthisdaysince1995 and #whatabeautifulstarttomyday Reply Back to Top |
| Modell righted the greatest injustice in NFL history, the robbery of football from Baltimore. Cleveland was guaranteed a new team the very next day and was able to keep the Browns colors and history. Frankly, they have no idea what it's like to be a Baltimore Colts fan. Modell didn't sneak off in the middle of the night. He told Cleveland what he was going to do. And then he did it. They just didn't believe him. Reply Back to Top |
quote: If I remember right, Baltimore was very much in favor of that deal because they didn't want to be like Indianapolis. Interestingly enough, the Colts threatened to move to Cleveland in 1997 and Modell supported the idea, because that would have forced them to become the Browns. Then he could have grabbed the Colts name and logo. Reply Back to Top |
quote:I wouldn't wish death on any family, but I have to be honest in saying that this man pissed me off for many years. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Yup. Modell also wanted to leave the Browns history in Cleveland. He didn't fight the idea at all. Unlike the Irsays, who were fighting Baltimore getting the Colts name all the way up until the Ravens played their first game. They wouldn't even let us name our CFL team the Colts. | I honestly wish the Nats (ugh) of MLB would/could be called the Senators. I believe that the Texas Rangers owns the rights. Not sure about the rest of that story though. The Nats Reply Back to Top |
| I wanted the team to call themselves the Grays after the Negro League team that played in DC. Josh f'n Gibson FTMFW. But that's neither here nor there. Reply Back to Top |
| Models had no say so in the Browns name so there was no use fighting it. He really was a greedy piece of shite. He was basically awarded an expansion team in Baltimore. This post was edited on 9/6 at 6:49 pm Reply Back to Top |
