Chicago church leaders roast Rahm Emanuel over Chick-fil-A stance

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has ticked off the flocks by criticizing Chick-fil-A.

Days after the big city boss blasted the chicken chain over its president's stance on same-sex marriage, an influential Baptist minister and Cardinal Francis George of the Archdiocese of Chicago struck back. The religious leaders, who support the traditional view of marriage, were incensed at Emanuel's claim that "Chick-fil-A's values are not Chicago's values."

"Do not disrespect us...We, too, are Chicago," the Rev. Charles Lyons of the Armitage Baptist Church thundered from the pulpit Sunday.

Lyons had a warning for anyone who tries to impose their values on his congregation.

"If the thought police come to Armitage Baptist Church, we will meet them at the door respectfully, unflinchingly, willing to die on this hill, holding a copy of the Sacred Scriptures in one hand and a copy of the U.S. Constitution in the other," Lyons said in the sermon.

AMEN!!!!

That's a strong statement of conviction of the faith which matches that of the pastor in Iran. What a sad day for this land that pastors here must make the same statements they make in Iran.

It was from the pulpits that the greatest speeches like this were given before the American Revolution. It's time for pastors, rabbis and Imans to stand up against this tyranny from the government.

I agree, but that has nothing to do with this subject.

It all seems clear to me, my brother.

I get it if someone says they don't like the CEO's stance on gay marriage and won't eat at Chick-Fil-A because of it. That's democracy in action IMO.

But what Rahm Emmanuel has done is loathesome. It's also hypocritical, as I point out in my thread about Emmanuel and Louis Farrakahn.

Kudos to this pastor for taking a public stand.

Why is that tune "Monday, Monday" going through my head?

BTW, I've run into the actor in your avatar (Eddie Steeples) countless times in the last few months and have been meaning to tell you.

No, you are an American and it is this perspective that has made our country great.

I am not in favor of gay marriage, but I would not do anything to oppose it - I would simply try and encourage traditional marriage and strengthen it - that is what Cathy said.

I believe in God.

I DO eat fast food (well, really only Chik-Fil-A because it is so good)

And, I fully support these ministers in their stance and CFA (its CEO).

I would also fully support any homosexuals who were actually discriminated against and would oppose actual discrimination.

The ability to have differing beliefs and disagree and still work together is what has made America an amazing place. It is ending, it seems.

Kudos to you, BHP.
