quote: Uhhh... can't the BR Zoo just buy a tiger and lease it to LSU as part of a zoological research program? Nobody can argue that Mike V and Mike VI are treated as well as (or better) any great cat in the United States. (ETA: Can't an institution as large as LSU just start its own zoo?) | My wife is from an hour from where it was located. We visited it once on a trip home for her. Place was a shithole! Not surprised it's gone. Reply Back to Top |
| There's a pretty nice facility here in north Alabama called Tigers for Tomorrow. Lots of big cats (not just tigers, but many of them as well). Shouldnt be too hard to locate one when needed. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I remember the '88 (I think) basketball game when they introduce Mike V. They brought him onto the court with a leash. ETA: it was '90, don't remember who we played though. I was 9/10 years old, so I don't remember the specifics. This post was edited on 7/24 at 12:16 am Reply Back to Top |

quote: Wiki I remember going to his old cage with my brother after a basketball game. He was in the northern part of his old cage walking around when he stopped to smell a pile of crap he had made earlier. He smelled it, looked up at us and made a face like we would when smelling something horrid. Then smelled it again, and made the same face. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I agree. With LSU's power, influence, and money, they would be able to get another Tiger. Somewhere. Somehow. Reply Back to Top |
quote: He strongly identified with humans - I was talking to him 1 day and he was completely nonplussed by foot traffic. He suddenly perked up - his fur was raised and he was tense, but not scared. He didn't stand up, but he craned his neck and sniffed the air - I looked where he was focused and a couple of stray dogs were crossing the Tiger Stadium parking lot, about 300 yards away. He would totally have killed those dogs if he could have, but was not aggressive (other than playfully) around people that I observed. Reply Back to Top |
quote: exactly. next time they picket mike the tiger, we will all picket them for not picketing tiger stop across the river Reply Back to Top |
quote: We do this with our kids, why not the Tiger? Reply Back to Top |
| I'm not real fond of new Mike. I brought my kids to see him once and he backs up to the fence and fricking sprays me. Cat spray smells like shite but this was like 3 gallons of Tiger spray. I had to disrobe and drove home in my underwear. Reply Back to Top |
| There is also a place in Paradise, Texas (north of Ft. Worth) that has quite a number of big cats (tigers, lions, etc.). I'm sure LSU could buy one from them. Reply Back to Top |
| might explain why Mike is so scared to get in his cage. Reply Back to Top |
