| re: Arsenal 2012/2013 Season Long Thread He's too gung-ho to get forward, makes silly mistakes, not the best positionally, makes some very clutch tackles, but he's not the best defender closing someone down. I want to have a rock at our center back, someone who's extremely tough to get past, well organized and keeps the rest of the line organized, knows where the opposition are located, is capable of following their mark. TV5's foot skill, passing, etc are all very good, and he's not bad in the air either, but when it comes to actual defense he truly isn't all that great. He gets caught out of position too often, and between he and the other defenders around him they aren't organized enough to close down the attackers. Thing is, between TV5, Per, and Koscielny there really isn't a sure thing back there. Koscielny has had as bad of a season as you can get and Per is a liability with his quickness, and passing. | Yeah I agree with pretty much all of that and this. Reply Back to Top |
quote: The gist is this, I agree with, though Kos has been good since starting the season really poorly IMO. I'd prefer Per and TV5 go (that's unrealistic though so I'll stick to wishing for one to leave) but wouldn't mind Kos sticking around. He's definitely still one for the occasional blunder, but I think he's better than the other two and good form a really good partnership with another type of CB. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Hot damn I just had a great idea, buy a "Rock" at CB to be our 3rd... and move TV5 up to DM. BAM perfect. Reply Back to Top |
| Can't deny I haven't had that thought in the past, but his positional awareness would be even worse there. He'd be a worse version of what Song became. He plays it short well and has a nice long ball at times but lacks any sort of creativity or inventiveness. Stamina would probably be an issue too. Reply Back to Top |
| Got it, thanks for the insights bros. ETA: I didn't think Kos has had a terrible season. I thought he's been good recently. I've only watched probably around 60-70% games though. This post was edited on 2/23 at 7:29 pm Reply Back to Top |
| Financials released. Looks like we have £123m in cash reserves, £99m of which could hypothetically be spent. Reply Back to Top |
quote: We won't spend half that. Reply Back to Top |
| I'll go right around half that figure. Reply Back to Top |
| We'll have to sell in order to lower the net pay out for new players to come close to half. Reply Back to Top |
| We'll have a few leave but new deals kicking in too. I still think £50m is quite possible. Also, we get some from Emirates up front this summer for our sponsorship renewal. I actually think it'll be £40-50m if no CL, if CL then one more player than we would've bought otherwise. Really disappointing our commercial staff had done nothing really. We've done these Asia trips but no real secondary deals have come from it at all. Reply Back to Top |
| Sending, Chamakh, arshavin, squillaci, and bednter packing would be a start. Reply Back to Top |
Bergkamp is getting a statue outside the Emirates. Fully deserved. What a magnificent statue. ![]() Reply Back to Top |
| if only they could somehow replicate the famous turn. it'd be tough, but that would be AMAZING. Reply Back to Top |
| This is what the statue evoked for me. Reply Back to Top |
| I'll be watching that all day long. Reply Back to Top |
| I legitimately start to tear up watching that (and his Newcastle goal). So beautiful. Reply Back to Top |
| I think it is pretty safe to say that the NLD this weekend is the biggest one for both teams since I became a fan of Arsenal 3 years ago. A win by the Gunners puts us just one point behind Spurs and, at worst, 2 points behind Chelsea. A loss could be devastating dropping us 7 points behind Spurs. Arsenal can now mostly focus on the EPL with the UCL dream almost ending. So, hopefully this is a match that can springboard the team to a top 4 finish. How does everyone feel about this one? With the way Bale has been playing, I just have a bad feeling something like their West Ham game will be replicated this Sunday. Here's to a win, and building hope that there will be another St. Totteringham's Day this year. Reply Back to Top |
| I feel pretty good about it, but I'm worried Per will get the start. Sagna will still be out, but at least Bale has been playing centrally. might be in their best interest to keep him out wide and attack Jenks. I think we'll be able to get behind their high line and create chances. Reply Back to Top |
