| will RSJ's recruitment affect Texas in the future? Posted by el duderino III Mack's shtick has always been pretty absurd, but RSJ has blatantly shown just how stupid it is. "Once you commit to us, you cant take visits anywhere else. Ok, well, if you're good, then I guess you can visit whoever you want. We'll be here waiting." You think hs coaches in Texas will finally realize this idiocy?Reply Back to Top |
| Texas will still get the top players in the state always Reply Back to Top |
| No. And if you think other schools don't have different rules for different recruits, you're crazy. Texas will still be Texas... and they will still be able to control 95+ % of their recruits every year by being Texas. Reply Back to Top |
| This won't matter when RSJ is signing his LOI to go to Texas in Feb Reply Back to Top |

quote: Dude If you can't tell that theres an exception to the rule, then I can't help you. Texas is, has been, and will get the top talent out of the state. A few here and there leave, but its not because of Macks recruiting strategy..its because other schools interest them more. Reply Back to Top |

| it's just so stupid. it's such an arrogant recruiting strategy. OU would still be pulling more out of texas like they used to if it wasnt for big game bob's level of suck in the past decade. I mean Florida and Cali have roughly the same level of talent and they've got at least three major universities competing and splitting them up - texas hasnt done anything in three years, but not a single damn school has stepped up in that time to give them some competition Reply Back to Top |
| We just need Mack Brown to stay coaching at Texas for a long, long time. It will be real interesting once he retires and they get a real football coach in there. Reply Back to Top |
quote: It seems like there are only two major football recruiting schools in Texas right now (1 Texas and 2 A&M). TCU has been great by their recent standards but have just not recruited at near the level of the Horns. Schools like SMU, Baylor, Tech, Houston are just not going to take recruits from Texas in general. Of course this could change to some extent. Mack Brown's arrival was when they started getting who they wanted to get again - and his departure could mean a regression that would benefit schools like OU, Ok State, A&M, TCU, and LSU. But Texas and A&M are the flagship schools of that state and everything else being equal one of those schools (more likely Texas) should dominate Texas recruiting IMO Reply Back to Top |
quote: Well technically, three seasons ago, Texas was in the NC game. Past two seasons - I'll give you that. RSJ isn't the first kid who's been committed and then taken visits (without having the offer pulled, see Hassan Ridgeway last year). Do they try and keep it quiet? Sure. But a coach would be stupid to have a set of unbendable recruiting "rules" that he applies in every case - not all recruits are the same and we all know it. Reply Back to Top |
| It's just a matter of time before Texas is going to be in the BCS mix. I try not to kid myself about this. I don't think they make a BCS bowl this year, but the following year they will if they get anything from the QB position. Reply Back to Top |
| First point....Texas will get the lion's share of the HIGHEST rated Texas players...that does NOT mean they are the best players. If anyone doubts that, then explain why Texas has got their pick of OL and DL and yet, their OL and DL pretty much SUCK!!! In fact, they are going the JUCO route for about the first time in UT history because even they know their trench guys in general aren't good enough. Second, has anyone noticed that Texas usually is at 25 right now and instead they are at about 15 verbals? Why is that? I'll take a stab at it. They KNOW they have just been taking Rivals word for their quality of players and basically finish recruiting before SR season is even played. Of course a lot of teams do that to a large degree but Texas class used to be done by now. They finally figured out that they were NOT getting the best players out of Texas. And I'm not talking the R Shepards or the C Lostons...I'm talking the Michael Brockers, etc. Texas finally figured out that just because Rivals ranked their class unbelievable doesn't mean it really was. A theoretical quote by the Texas coaching staff..."You know, it might not be a waste of time to actually watch the guys' SR year and evaluate the players ourselves instead of letting Rivals and Scouts tell us how great we are doing." quote: Might have something to do with only having about 18-19 spots in this class too. Reply Back to Top |
