| Charles Schwab. Its the best: -free checking -refunds on ALL atm fees (you can use any atm for free) -plus interest on your checking account It might not be for everybody, but for me it beats Chase, Wells Fargo, BofA etc... Reply Back to Top |
| Everyone is giving suggestions, but no one even knows why this guy is mad. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I'll check them out also and am bookmarking this thread. Now for my tin foil hat findings and potential issue with Cap One. We closed down a BoA CC and auto pay each month on the balance. It is set up to be charged on the 20th, which gets posted to our Cap One checking acct on the 22nd or later. This month the BoA was charged on the 21st which over drafted us for less than one day (yes I know, poor people's problems). I keep all my checking acct data on an excel spreadsheet. The last time they posted the charge on the 21st, it caused OD fees. Both times a paycheck posted on the 22nd which would have avoided the fees if the charge would have been posted on the 22nd. I also saw another one previous to that which would have caused OD fees if I didn't make an out of the norm deposit. Am I crazy in my line of thinking that Cap One is doing this on purpose to bilk an easy fee? Sorry, tl;dr. Reply Back to Top |

quote: Yes. I'm not saying that they are in the right, but I doubt that they are doing it intentionally. Further, if it's set to draft on the 20th, you should have the cash in there on the 20th. If you want it to draw on the 22nd, schedule it for the 22nd. They don't guarantee a 2 day lag on ACH fees, although that is the norm. I'm not normally a big defender of retail banking, but you sound mad over something you did to yourself. Reply Back to Top |
| I am moving back to NOLA, whats the go to bank their these days? I still have an old chase checking account and credit card but I hear they are not very good these days. Reply Back to Top |
| With Cap One and I would assume others, you are scheduling the date you want the company to receive your payment, not when it is taken from your account. Reply Back to Top |
| I understand what you are saying about having the funds available and agree with you. I just find it fishy that the last 2 1/2 years every time they charged on the 21st, there was a problem or potential for a problem. Every other time it was charged on the 22nd or later. Reply Back to Top |
| I don't do operational stuff, but I work with people who do. Sometimes ACH transactions clear a day early, especially if they were done early in the morning. ETA: the point is, this is not a cap 1 issue, it could happen with any ACH vendor. This post was edited on 6/22 at 12:28 pm Reply Back to Top |
| Yeah, I hear you. Thanks for the info, I'm going to look around and see if there are any other viable alternatives. Reply Back to Top |
