Notice how it goes up high to include Evangeline Parish? Fuggin outlaws in the flat sit tae. Reply Back to Top
They haven't set the dates yet, but it would logically put the coastal zone after the other two. They are also considering two other things: 1. Moving the youth hunt to the middle of the season and 2. having two splits instead of one Reply Back to Top
I was at the LDWF meeting when the change was considered and ultimately approved. For those of you who hunt the coastal areas of the old west zone, this move will not change a thing for you. Coastal zone will have old west zone dates. The change will come for those hunting western La (all the way up to Shreveport area) who previously had same dates as the coast. Now that area can be managed on its own based on similar habitat types. I'll also be at the commission meeting next month when season dates are kicked around. I'd encourage any of you who want to see how it's all determined to attend, pretty interesting. Reply Back to Top
I got a feeling we are going to a 45 day 4 duck limit this year Reply Back to Top

No way... Breeding grounds are in good shape and the population as a whole is up over last year. Where did you come up with this hypothesis? (that's a federal limit, not LA) Reply Back to Top

quote: No chance, the duck numbers are up this year and the breeding habitat is in great shape. See http://www.ducks.ca/resource/general/wetland/pdf/12junhab.pdf This is the link to the latest. I'm one of the DU chairmen for Baton Rouge's sponsor banquet. If any of you would like more information, let me know. Reply Back to Top |

Is it possible that they move the opening dates back to accommodate the late migration we've been experiencing the last few seasons? Later Harvest Dates in the deep south? Reply Back to Top
The meetings are held the first thurs of every month, 9am at the LDWF office on Quail Dr in BR. From what I've heard and read, no chance of 45 day season this year BUT going to three zones was also partly done in attempt to prepare for such reduced days if that were to occur in future so you get more flexibility Reply Back to Top
That's strange that they're doing this three zone system to help with a possible reduction in of days in the future given, The last 5-10 years have been pretty good in regards to breeding success. Reply Back to Top
The rationale is that while the breeding grounds have been wet for the last 12-14 years or so, it's cyclical and thus we're eventually "due" for a dry spell and reduced production. Couple that possibility with the continued gross loss of critical nesting habitat by hundreds of thousands of acres per year and outlook isn't so rosy. Time will tell.... Reply Back to Top Refresh
