| Should be deemed the savior of "rock n roll" in my opinion. I was late to the game and never really listened to White Stripes till last year. In this past year I have made it a point to acquire everything in the catalog and also his side projects with The Raconteurs and Dead Weather. From a musician's standpoint, I see no virtuoso traits, what I find is a simplistic yet ever evolving soundscape. Very roots rock oriented. It's a shame kids are listening to Bruno Mars, Nickleback, and load of others we could list, yet newer generations just are not picking up on White's contributions. Jack White is making the kind of music all our peers listened to and appreciated. Older brothers, parents, that cool uncle you always knew got high, they are listening to White and theres a reason. Jack is giving us his modern take on the likes of Son House, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis etc. I could water down my post by going on and on. I would give everyone the impression of being a fan boy but alas thats not the case. I'm sorry I was late to the game listening to the material, I hope one person reads this topic and decides to give it a try, that would make me happy. Until then, Jack White is modern day rock god and we should be thankful some of us were able to hear the music in this era. To those who disagree with us Jack White lovers, well obviously you are wrong. Reply Back to Top |
| I absolutely love Jack White. At the same time, I can understand how his stuff can be a little hard to get into. The more you listen to his stuff the more you understand it. He is ahead of the game. Reply Back to Top |
| I think if someone were to first hear Jack White through Blunderbuss it could be hard to get into but a ton of his White Stripes songs are just instantly likeable. Theres not too many blues/rock artists that can come out with songs that get chanted at sport stadiums a la 7 nation army. His white stripes stuff can just instantly hook people but I agree you have to kinda understand him for Blunderbuss, which I love personally. Also if this thread doesn't get more talk than the bone thugs appreciation thread I will have lost all faith in the music board Reply Back to Top |
| I appreciate jack white and his record label Reply Back to Top |
| Prepare for your "doomsday apocalyptic future" ! No way in hell this gets more looks and replies than the Bone, Thugs topic. Which makes me sad in pants, all day long! Reply Back to Top |
| If you listen to his discography, including the stuff he produced for Loretta and Wanda, you will see how he evolved as a musician since his first Stripes CD. It's really amazing. He's an amazing artist and underrated IMO, possibly because of his idiosyncrasies. But love him or hate him you have to respect what he has done for the genre. Reply Back to Top |
quote: If you think Bone thugs gets more respect than Jack white here you haven't been around this board long. I'm actually pretty damn impressed with the collective musical tastes of this board. Reply Back to Top |
| I don't know if he really evolved I think there has just always been a lot more to Jack White than people realized, especially with the rockabilly stuff he did with Wanda Jackson go look at some of the people he listened to growing up ie Dex Romweber that's pretty much spot on IMO. I think Blunderbuss and his work with Loretta Lynn are just branching off that. Reply Back to Top |
| My post about the Bone Thugs thread is probably a sad illustration of my disenchantment with the human race. I usually expect the "worse case scenario". It certainly pleases me to be able to mingle with others who share the same feelings about the music as I do. No offense intended... Reply Back to Top |
| You can't really grasp his abilities and originality without watching some live videos, documentaries, etc. Has anyone seen the concert video they made somewhere in Europe. It is the shite. He orchestrated and starred in Raconteurs, Dead Weather, and the White Stripes and is now doing solo. He's still young. I think he will go down as one of the greatest artists ever. He will be making music for a long, long time. And almost everytime you hear it, it will be a little different than the last. This post was edited on 6/12 at 4:12 pm Reply Back to Top |
| I recommend that everyone in this thread drop what they are doing and watch It Might Get Loud right now This post was edited on 6/12 at 4:31 pm Reply Back to Top |
| I already seent it I like under great white northern lights more personally Reply Back to Top |
| There should be a Jack white mustache appreciation thread honestly. The man routinely rocks some of the meanest goddamn staches know to modern mankind Reply Back to Top |
quote: amazing documentary. people may shite on me for saying this, but there's one point where he makes Plant look like a pee wee guitar player. a bit of an exaggeration, but the man knows how to play Reply Back to Top |
| Well seeing as how plant neither plays guitar nor is in the documentary I guess he did Reply Back to Top |
quote: ? You mean Jimmy Page? If so, I don't know about that but between Jack White and Page I wanted to scream whenever Edge felt like he needed to contribute. It was like if Michael Jordan, and Magic Johnson were talking about basketball then they cut to a scene of Jason Kidd showing how to shoot a free throw. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Agreed but I like how they showed three different eras of guitar while showing three completely different styles and approaches to the instrument. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
