| Going forward, I'm going to consider everything on the show a metaphor. They should assign this series to English Lit classes. Reply Back to Top |
| I used to think I was reading too much into the episodes. I mean, I could extrapolate bull shite deeper meanings from an episode of "Everybody Loves Raymond" (aka Oedipus Rex) after the mumbo-jumbo I was taught as an English Lit major. Then I read a couple of articles on David Chase and Weiner and realized that they were putting far more metaphorical stuff in the shows than I could have imagined! Reply Back to Top |
Posted by Zamoro10 on 6/13 at 6:16 pm to Cold Pizza Just watched it. Excellent finale. I just knew that Peggy was the poster-child of this show for the slogan "You've come a long way baby" from Virginia Slims. Apropos then that she is handed the account to make that pitch. Haven't read any of the theories but obviously Don seeing Adam again in his hallucinations is his inner-mind reminding him that he can't change who he is...and not just guilt resurfacing over Lane. Don can't escape his past = he can't escape himself. Therefore I look for Season 6 to be completely different for Don. This was like a season off for him...and he can't be this perfect husband...and he suddenly saw Megan objectively for a moment in her screen test...and the glimmer of love might be gone. Love that Pete continues to be the wanna-be Don from previous years and tried to pull the trip to California...I said earlier, Pete will try to run off to California and emulate the wayward ways of his foe/hero. Season 6 looks like Roger/Peggy/Don/Pete/Sally as we go forward. I still see Betty showing up as ancillary to Sally's escapades. So that solves the is Peggy here or gone debate...there's no way we start the Virginia Slims account and Don and Peggy meet in the movie theater and Peggy is never heard from again. The ending shot of them standing in their new office space was glorious. It's not my favorite episode of the season but it was cinematically the best. Don walking away from Megan's shoot could have been Welles behind the camera. Mad Men always does this to you...every year we complain when the season first starts because of expectations and Weiner's slow approach and by the last episode we are reminded why it's the best show on television. Long-winded post, but what the hell. The season is over. This post was edited on 6/13 at 6:18 pm Reply Back to Top |
| I'm gonna be pissed if we've seen the last of Fat Betty. Reply Back to Top |
| Anybody else notice how Peggy was sitting in the movie theather? She was sitting in the same way Don sits in the opening sequence. Reply Back to Top |

quote: Damn! You're like Randy Watson...you good. So the student will become the Master...and then this will play out like Highlander...so Don, goes over the edge and Peggy becomes Master of the Universe. Reply Back to Top |

| Man I love this show. Some great comments and finds in this thread. Ive been watching since season 1, episode 1. Its my favorite drama of all time. I love Breaking Bad too but this season of Mad Men put it over the top. Reply Back to Top |
| I love Breaking Bad too but it's a more typical "in your face" show...like shotgunning a beer. Mad Men is more like a Cognac...and it pays dividends to think about it later. Reply Back to Top |

For those that thought it was Megan and her friend in the bar with Don... ![]() Reply Back to Top |
| It's late and I don't feel like figuring this out. So was that Megan's friend who asked Don if he was alone? Reply Back to Top Refresh |
