Does anyone remember this regional or super regional ? Posted by Bayoufightingtiger I can't remember but I believe in the mid to late 90's or possibly 2000 era when the baseball was playing in the Box and a bad storm passed through during the game. The game was suspended for a couple of hours and I believe we were losing. Just about everybody left. When the game resumed, LSU started pounding the ball and we came back and won. The Box then filled to capacity. I can't remember the year or the team we were playing. I thought it may have been a team from Cali and I can't remember if it was an elimination game or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated if you can remember this dramatic game. This post was edited on 6/6 at 2:20 pm Reply Back to Top
It sounds like Long Beach St in 1997. It was an elimination game and a classic. Skip actually was ejected in this one. That did not happen very often. Reply Back to Top
Was that UC Irvine ? I faintly recall that being an issue. Reply Back to Top

I remember when the stadium cleared I ran into the lawn equipment shed with a bunch of other fans. I do remember the other team had a real good outfielder. Coons corner gave him hell. This was an awesome game. Reply Back to Top
Couple of rain delays come to mind. In 1990 LSU had to beat USC twice in the championship round. LSU won Game1, and a near tornado passed through and actually blew down a section of the outfield fence. Game 2 was played on Monday of which LSU had a come from behind win. I bet your thinking of 1997 when South Alabama had a junk ball pitcher shut down That great LSU lineup. It rained during the 7th inning of that game and the rest of the day was washed out. USA did hold on to win and make it to the championship round, but LSU defeated Long Beach St in an Alex Box classic extra inning game, and then on Monday LSU basically 10 run ruled USA twice. quote:This was also in 1997. We beat LBST to get to Sunday against S Alabama. LSU had to win 2 and they did. It was like batting practice on Sunday. It's hard to believe that perhaps the best of the title teams almost did not get out of Baton Rouge. Reply Back to Top
Yep Long Beach State, and then we came back the next day and beat either ULL or South Alabama twice to go to Omaha. I can't remember which one, we did it to both of those teams within the span of a few years. Reply Back to Top
quote: I remember the game with Long Beach went pretty late into the night. Edit: Found it on Wiki: In the South I Regional, LSU lost the winner's bracket final to South Alabama, forcing the Tigers to win three games in the space of 24 hours in order to return to Omaha. The Tigers survived a grueling five-hour marathon with Long Beach State, winning 14–7 in 11 innings, despite Bertman's ejection in the eighth inning for arguing a balk call. On a 95-degree Memorial Day, LSU defeated South Alabama 14–4 and 15–4 to advance to the CWS. This post was edited on 6/6 at 2:30 pm Reply Back to Top |
I believe that was Long Beach. We lost to South Alabama and that pitcher Nokamura. Had to beat The Beach that night in a rain delayed late inning game. I think we put up a big number in the 8th or 9th to win it. Then beat the shite out of South Alabama in two games sunday. Reply Back to Top
So basically, what I said. Reply Back to Top
Thanks it was the dirtbags we played. We had our backs against the wall. After the rain delay, the stadium filled and it was rocking Reply Back to Top

I got arrested at that game for standing on the light pole base in right field to look over the fence at the game. But people with RV's next to me were basically watching the game "over the fence" too. Reply Back to Top
