Posted by Bard My roommie and I were talking politics tonight and something during the discussion made me think about this: What is the effect on the economy if the USSC finds the President's healthcare bill unconstitutional in toto? By my thinking, businesses are probably holding their breaths waiting on this decision before deciding whether to hire or not (or how many to hire... or even fire) because of the way the bill -or lack thereof- will effect their bottom lines. With that said, if the healthcare bill is rule unconstitutional, does this cause an upswing in the economy? If not, why not? If so, could it be enough (especially with gasoline prices dropping like they currently are) for the President to fail his way into a 2nd term? | While I think the #1 problem right now is uncertainty, I think its more than just Health Care. Coming down the pipe in the next year you have: Health Care Debt Ceiling Negotiations Bush Tax Cuts Expiring Spending Cut Agreements from last year. All these things may or may not happen. If you were a small business of about 10 employees, would you be willing to hire one or 2 more employees under this level of uncertainty? I think thats a fair question. Reply Back to Top |

| Europe's economy is going to drag us down and flatline the economy...the ruling of the HC will have some effects, but it is a global economy. Reply Back to Top |

| Depends on companies that have already factored the costs into their outlook/projections. I'm sure it will have an affect with some but it would be too speculative at this point to know for sure. But I really really want this mandate to be struck down. Reply Back to Top |
quote: No. I think tonight's results in Wisconsin have got to be making Obama shat his pants. When Obamacare is declared unconstitutional, his only achievement would be crossed off. So basically in four years he accomplished nothing of note (except for letting Seal Team 6 put a bullet through bin Laden's head Reply Back to Top |
quote: I agree about the WI decision, but I can't help but wonder what sort of domino effect is coming from the USSC's decision (regardless of which way it goes). Considering the other responses, if Obamacare fails, gasoline goes below $3/gallon and Congress keeps the Bush tax cuts and this all happens before October, does the economy pick up enough for the President to get re-elected? | Obama better hope they at least rule the mandate unconstitutional. I think a ruling in support of Obamacare will likely have a very adverse effect on the economy. Most of my friends that own or run businesses effected by this impending law have always assumed it would be shot down in some capacity. It these people end up on the hook, you are going to see a lot of firings and the like as a result IMO. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
