| Athlon Debate on Les as a Coach Posted by jdg91878 It blows me away how little respect Les continues to get from the National media although he has close to a 80% win percentage, 2 SEC's and 1 National in 7 years at LSU. They are all quick to deify Saban, who was beaten by Miles last season at his place in Primetime. Bama and Saban used politics to undeservedly play for the title last year. They didn't even win their own division. How is that on another level. I don't feel like Saban is on another level. Give me a break. He is great for sure, but Les is 3-3 against God, soon to be 4-3. The guy who said if Petrino were still at Arky, then Les would be the 3rd best coach in the West. LOL WUT!!! Did he watch the Arky game last year. How many SEC titles does Petrino have again? National Titles?  on 6/5 at 11:07 amI also love the fact the National Media continues to credit Les Miles success to the Roster and Recruiting Base. As if Nick Saban doesn't have the same advantages, with TTown in middle of Georgia and Florida. I can give Saban credit for laying the foundation, as they point out. But, did LES MILES do the same for OKIE ST and Gundy. You bet your arse he did. Only one guy mentions LES's foundation at Okie St, and did it after he claims Petrino to be a good coach. | The Mick is exactly right...Tiger fans might as well get used to it. Fair or not, January 9 will be mentioned by the national media in every discussion about Les Miles' coaching abilities for the foreseeable future, and maybe for his entire career. Reply • Back to Top |

| Overall, seems like a pretty positive and fair assessment of him. There's not much I can disagree with there. Every coach has his flaws, even St. Nick. Miles' screw-ups just seem to be more high-profile than others, and his eccentricities make for good media fodder. But who else are you going to take (other than Nick)? Meyer, who basically quit for the past 2 years? Stoops, who can't win the big game? Mack Brown and Mark Richt have their pick of 2 of the most talent-rich states in the country and can't do better than Miles. There is no perfect coach out there, but Miles is great for LSU and has done a superb job, warts and all. Reply • Back to Top |

| Every coach loses games, every coach loses games to "lesser" teams. Saban losing to UAB and ULM in his first year taking over losing teams is meaningless and not comprable to losing in the BCS CG. Its really silly to bring those up. I did not see the debate in question, but in my expirience Miles gets a lot more respect from national media than he does from LSU fans. That said he has always been polarizing. Some felt he was just living off "Sabans players" his first 3 years and 08 up thru the 2010 UT game confirmed it in their eyes. Beating Bama in 2010 and again on 11/5 changed that, the debacle on 1/9 set him back in their eyes again. I do agree that a win on 11/3 and NC will mostly erase 1/9/12.
