| Just starting to fully appreciate whiskey. Recommend me some Posted by LSU6262 I just finished a bottle of bushmills. Before that I had jack daniels single barrel. I liked the jack better. I have found that I prefer it with 2-3 ice cubes. Anyway, what should my next bottle be? under $50 please Reply Back to Top |

| Bourbon: Black Maple Hill or Jefferson's. Bulliet is interesting. Scotch: i prefer Highland Park, but some people dont appreciate the peat forward taste. When starting with single malts, begin with the Lowlands area. They are light and more malty than peaty. Auchentoshan is a good one. . I cant help you with irish, canadian, or japanese whisky. | Do some research on the different types of whiskey. There are different tastes for different folks. Some like scotch, some blended, some bourbon, etc. Try different ones to see which you prefer. Also, remember, some are meant to be enjoyed pure and some benefit from a splash of 7up/Coke/ginger ale/ whatever. When you find what you like, light a big fat cigar and enjoy ! Reply Back to Top |

| Bourbons- Knob Creek @30 great stuff serve on rocks and it is a nice little starter product, a touch above are Bookers and Blantons. Scotch- Glenlivet and Glefiddich 12-18 year old versions are what I would call the know starter models, the Solera of Glefiddich is great stuff a little above 50. A personal favorite is Balvenie Doublewood(6 in oak, 6 in a used Sherry cask) friends have described it as melted butter) Reply Back to Top |

| To you two blenders GTFO, that is a waste of money and taste buds. Reply Back to Top |
| i don't know the difference between whiskey and bourbon,(suppose i could goggle), but i really don't care.. i like george dickel and evan williams. both are way under 50 bucks and taste damn good, get you some... Reply Back to Top |
| There's a reason that the Scots themselves drink blends. It's because most single malts taste like shite. I drink singles from time to time, but I simply can't get enjoyment from choking down a drink that tastes like a bandaid soaked in iodine tincture(Laphroaig). For a guy just getting started, the blends are the way to go. This post was edited on 6/3 at 9:59 am Reply Back to Top |

quote:I think the snide comment targeting blends was referring to whiskeys other than scotch - your VOs, CCs, Crown, etc. - which you would normally drink with a mixer versus neat, rocks or up. This post was edited on 6/3 at 12:49 pm Reply Back to Top |

| Calandro's has the 90 proof Jack Daniels. That's what I like and I have no desire to drink other whiskeys...Crown, Makers, etc. all taste like mosquito repellent to me.....Yes, I know what mosquito repellent tastes like. Reply Back to Top |

Islay has some very aromatic scotches but they do have iodine to them. Lowlands are light and malty, highlands are smoky/peaty, etc. Just because one tastes like one thing means nothing about the next. Its like saying you had a single vineyard wine that you didnt like so you probably wont like any. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
