Pittsburgh police confirmed Wednesday they are investigating a robbery Tuesday evening of a 26-year-old Hispanic woman who was tied up and robbed inside Reds pitcher Aroldis Chapman’s room at the Omni Penn Hotel.

Claudia Manrique, of Silver Spring, Md., a guest of Chapman, was in the Reds pitcher’s room while he was at Tuesday's Reds- Pirates game.

Guests who stayed in a room on the same floor heard a woman screaming for help around 10 p.m. and went to her room to check on her, police said.

They found her crying and bound with cloth napkins and alerted hotel security. The woman was not injured or sexually assaulted, according to police. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was interviewed by detectives.

Police said she told them she answered a knock at the door from a man who said he was from the maintenance department and was there to fix the toilet. When she opened the door, he barged in and demanded various contents from the room.

She refused, so he tied her up and ransacked the room. He stole jewelry, clothing, a computer, credit cards and identification cards.

The Reds issued the following statement: “We are aware of the hotel room robbery of one of our players and are working with local law enforcement agencies. Because it is an active police investigation, we have no other comment at this time.”
