Do you think it possible to win an election by name change?

How many people really know all the names on the ballot?

Most people show up just to vote for President or Governor..but IMO not many show up to vote for some councilman election.

Would it be plausible to change your name and win an election just out of Name recognition?

for example

quote:

State Representative -- 61st Representative District
All 28 precincts reporting
Click here for Results by Precinct
C. Denise Marcelle (D) 47.22% 1836
Alfred C. Williams (D) 52.78% 2052

If I snuck in with William "Bill" Clinton, Huey P. Long or Martin L. King....would that be enough to pull enough votes in to win?

Maybe not a State Rep, but how about those councilmen, school board, etc...elected positions?

Yes, a "better" sounding name in some elections may make a very small statistical difference, particularly in races with lots of candidates for a minor office.

Pick 6 of 16 unknowns for a state central committee position or county executive council. Yes. A serious race not much, top of the ticket list may be more effective an advantage.

and those aren't paid then right?

wonder if the courts would alloe you to change your name to say Chas Roemer

Charles E. "Chas" Roemer IV (R) 66.39% 20141
Donald Songy (D) 33.61% 10195

Pick a guy easily favored but run for a different office.

He didn't change his name though.

He was a con artist who just happened to have the same name as the incumbent congressman...who, just before the election, died screwing his legislative aide on the desk. Eddie took full advantage of having the same name. Funny movie.
