According to documents recently filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the RIAA was asking for damages of about $72 trillion dollars, a figure that the judge in the case said is "absurd." Judge Kimba Wood wrote in a recent decision that, "An award based on the RIAA calculations would amount to 'more money than the entire music industry has made since Edison's invention of the phonograph in 1877.'"

And not a single f*ck was given.

Exactly. If I were the judge I would have thrown it out. Frivolous. Come back when you have something sensible.

It would be funny if the Judge came back and said "For your utter stupidity and mockery of my court... And as punishment for the shitty music that you have put out lately, I am awarding you$1"

Trivia. Kimba Wood was one of two WJC attorney general nominees derailed for hiring illegal alien nannies.

On topic: I've come to believe downloading is a patriotic duty.

I work in an industry that deals with music licensing and such for the commercial market...

the RIAA is the Music Nazi's and I do not doubt that is exactly what they are asking for...

I think this must be the same law firm that north korea used...

LINK

Yes, North Korea sued us for 75 trillion back in 2010. The only thing is North Korea said that was dating back to 1950.

The RIAA is just suing limewire for the past five or so years.

As someone has already said, the amount they are suing for is greater than the world's gdp. It is likely more money than music has made since music's very inception, let alone since edison was around.

Someone needs to go around and smack them. The judge should fine them for being stupid. Because they ask for outrageous claims and then get a portion of that which is just too much.
