| It's desperation. It's "We don't know what we're doing but we gotta do something so we can have a talking point in the next news cycle." Pathetic. Reply Back to Top |
| Absolutely no reason to tap the reserves right now. Reply Back to Top |
| This guy is actually thinking about tapping a strategic oil reserve and the ONLY reasonable explanation is that it is somehow, in his mind and in the minds of those in his inner circle, going to help him get elected. I made the observation the other day and it is true...this reminds me a a heavyweight fight in which the heavily favored champ (Obama) gets rocked in the first round and starts throwing wild hay makers in an attempt to defend himself. I think that a fly on the wall in campaign headquarters for team Obama would reveal that they are (1) shocked that Romney is polling this close to Obama, and (2) fear that this thing is about to get away from him. As an aside, flipping through the channels last night and come across Dick Morris on O'Reilly. I can't not watch Morris...he is a greasy, nasty trainwreck of a human - like a Batman movie character - he says he has polled 6000 likely voters from May 1 to May 11th nationally...he had Romney at like a 10 point margin. Granted he a a slimmy MFer, but that is pretty crazy. Reply Back to Top |
quote: They were dropping then 2 nights ago took a big jump. I filled up on Monday evening at $3.49, Tuesday when I drove to work it was $3.75. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Must be something local going on there. The national average drop has continued without any rises whatsoever. I track it daily. It's $3.72 today, it was $3.73 two days ago. Here's the daily graph from Bloomberg: LINK Reply Back to Top |
| I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the oil in the SPR is fairly crappy(full of sulfur maybe?) and they had a hard time finding actual buyers the last time they tapped it. If oil continues to drop finding buyers for crap when you can buy the good stuff on the cheap is going to be tough. Reply Back to Top |
| Nope, in Lexington, it was $3.49 Tuesday...it jumped to $3.79 yesterday....gas is spiking up. Reply Back to Top |
| How is it crap if it can be refined into product we need in an emergency? What is your point? We should sell what you claim can't be sold? (absurd) We should not sell this crap? We should spend billions buing lower sulphur content oil to replace perfectly good crude? Where are you going with this? Reply Back to Top |
| All of a sudden things are hitting panic button mode!! The people of the United States should be totally ashamed of themselves for letting this immigrant live in the White House for 4 years. Surely to all things holy we will not let this occur for another 4 years. Reply Back to Top |
quote: It's not an emergency. quote: A release will not have much of an impact on price at this time - i'm assuming the president's reason for tapping the reserve is to artificially lower oil prices. Prices on better quality crude are dropping. Obviously, this would be political grandstanding. This post was edited on 5/17 at 8:33 pm Reply Back to Top |
quote: Both of you guys are in Kentucky, has to be local. There are at least 4 independent unbiased sources that track the daily average and have been doing so for years, and NATIONALLY there is no sign of a spike whatsoever. May 1 - $3.80 May 2 = $3.80 May 3 - $3.79 May 4 - $3.79 May 5 - $3.78 May 6 - $3.78 May 7 - $3.76 May 8 - $3.75 May 9 - $3.74 May 10 - $3.73 May 11 - $3.73 May 12 - $3.73 May 13 - $3.73 May 14 - $3.73 May 15 - $3.73 May 16 - $3.72 Reply Back to Top |
| Why did the enviromentalist not prevent these great salt domes from being contaminated by that yucky oil? Reply Back to Top |
Posted by Quidam65 on 5/17 at 8:37 pm to StrangeBrew quote: Maybe that's why he's tapping in to them--to drain them so they don't cause any more "environmental damage" (never mind oil is commonly found in salt domes--doesn't fit the talking points). Reply Back to Top |
New speculation is that Israel is close to a pre-emptive strike on Iran. This may be the reason in opening these lines of communication. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
