Interesting link from a big game hunting background.

quote:

Important for close up shots: Bullets must be "asleep". If the angle of yaw (precession) is
relatively high near the muzzle, the bullet tends to tumble at impact and is not able to build
up a perfect supercavitation bubble. Full stabilisation for a twist of 1:16 or 1:14 is
established at about 20 yards. That holds especially for smaller calibers, e.g. some .223
military rounds are stabilized only at about 80 yards. At closer distances they tumble.

Ok , I'm off to lunch for a nice MLT

what exactly imparts the stabilization of the bullet once it is flying through the air and out of the barrel?

so many variables here. If I were a 100 yards in the sky and shot straight down, this would inversely reflux the recessessitude of the magnification of gravity outwards and thus increasingly affect the velocity through impact combustion.

I've seriously been searching for an hour. Can't believe I can't find a test on the internet that shows penetration at various distances...

So at 20 yards they start spinning faster for better control?

Where the mutton is real lean and the tomato is ripe? They're so perky. I just love that.

Assume mythbusters did a show on this:

Do you think they have a chance?

It would take a miracle.

they had a tv show about snipers and they said that these insurgents were taking heavy sniper fire. they kept backing off, but as they did so, the bullets would pass through them slower and slower so more people actually got killed. the ones in close were just cut through like nothing.

It is possible since the lower velocity might not be capable of opening the bullet up if we're talking about expanding bullets.

Solid or FMJ, no way in hell.
