| Erik Spoelstra and Mike Brown Posted by Valhalla on 5/17 at 9:50 am Are either of these guys competent coaches? If you were an NBA owner which would you want leading your team? Please don't turn this into a Kobe vs. Lebron debate either. I think we have seen enough of those for the time being. Reply Back to Top |
| if either didn't have Lebron, Wade, Kobe etc... they'd be nobodies. Reply Back to Top |
| I would much rather Spoelstra. I think Mike Brown brings nothing to the table, good or bad. Spo seems ok. Reply Back to Top |
| Mike Brown is a great defensive coach. Cant coach himself out of a paper bag on the other end though. Reply Back to Top |
Posted by Unbiased Bama Fan on 5/17 at 9:55 am to Valhalla Mike Brown's a better coach than Spoelstra. The Cavs roster was absolutely garbage outside of Lebron and Brown took them to the NBA Finals and had two 60 win seasons. Reply Back to Top |
| I think when you have a team full of egos and superstars like the Lakers and Heat do, it is very hard to find a coach who is respected by the players, and one they'll listen to. I'd go with Brown over Spoelstra, but I don't think either are top-tier coaches. This post was edited on 5/17 at 9:57 am Reply Back to Top |
| Didn't the Lakers have Phil Jackson coaching last year and they got swept by the Mavs? I don't see how the x's and o's are the problem. The Lakers had a great game plan and it mostly worked until the end when they went away from their bigs. I doubt he told them to do that. Spoelstra is young but he has been paying his dues for a while. Again, they didn't lose the other night because of a gameplan. They got beat because the players didn't make free throws down the stretch. Reply Back to Top |
| Yeah, this is the general consensus on Brown with respect to D. Spo's stupidity is mind-boggling when you learn he is supposed to be some kind of video genius. I think his knowledge might shine through a bit more if he didn't have two guys who he he has to just run iso for 95% of the time. Reply Back to Top |

| Spoelstra. Brown has had talent in Cleveland and LA but outside of his one fluke Finals run he's done less with more. Spoelstra had nothing his first two years in Miami. Last year he gets talent and does something with it (the Mavs title was their fluke). Can't blame him for Bosh getting hurt. Reply Back to Top |

| So who gets the blame for these late game break downs? The last possessions for both teams in the most recent games were awful. Chalmers and Blake taking your last shots? Reply Back to Top |
quote: Blame Metta World Peace for that, and it was plainly obvious that was his decision to get the ball to Blake. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Spoelstra seems to overthink when drawing up plays in the last second. There's numerous times where he will run a play not designed for Wade or Lebron. Reply Back to Top |
quote: They didn't quite replace Lebron with a super-star. It's hard to judge a supporting cast when they no longer have a star to support. Reply Back to Top |
| Its like picking between a Poop Hamburger or a Fart Flavored Ice Cream. Both are terrible options. Reply Back to Top |
