I too think that the 0-0-0-0 formation is more flexible than the 0-0-0.

“It’s not the most physical line-up, given that it lacks any corporeal form, and I wouldn’t expect us to dominate possession,” he added. “But I’m confident that this team can be more than the sum of its non-existent parts.”

Reaction among supporters to everyone’s omission has been mixed, however.

“It’s great to see Roy get rid of the dead wood, but I worry about this team’s strength in depth,” said England fans’ spokesman Hugh Merryweather. “We’re lightweight in every position, and there’s literally no-one on the bench.”

“Also, I can’t believe he picked Stewart Downing.”

This is outstanding.

The worst problem for Roy, though? He picked Stuart Downing.

How does it feel if you're Micah or Rio and Stuart gets the call up, instead of you.

Obviously I agree that Downing had an abysmal year in 11/12...trust me, I watched every excruciating minute of it. However, for some reason he played much better in the England shirt throughout the year. We've all seen him play well in the past and I'm not certain that this was a horrible call up.

Scholes. Easy question to answer. Find me a pure center mid who has been better throughout the second half of the year.

Scholes obviously said no LOL. England's been trying to get him to play since he retired.
