Pacquiao's comments on gays: big deal or no deal?
Posted by Nonetheless on 5/16 at 2:46 pm
quote:

Pacquiao's directive for Obama calls societies to fear God and not to promote sin, inclusive of same-sex marriage and cohabitation, notwithstanding what Leviticus 20:13 has been pointing all along: “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

Personally I think the media quoting Pac as saying "gays should be put to death" are taking his words out of context. He was quoting Leviticus and not just speaking his mind. Additionally, his country is against homosexuality completely. It's not surprising that he would hold these views

Thoughts?

ETA: I'm not against gays. I support gay marriage, etc. etc.

I couldnt care less about what a boxer from the Philippines thinks about gay marriage in the U.S.

umm, who is stopping homosexuals from doing what they want now as far as not wanting to procreate with women? You are missing the point.

He's voicing his opinion. Every one should have that right and I see no problem with him doing so. Even though I don't hold his same views.

most of us are products of our environment. unless you encounter someone who challenges your biases or bigotry it is uncommon to spontaneously challenge a prejudice you were taught at a young age.

he is still responsible for being a bigot but given his background I'm not surprised by his opinions.

I don't have any problem with him voicing his views, I'm just saying I don't understand them

Which was stupid. Leviticus also forbids tattoos. Pacquiao conveniently ignored that part.

I agree with him, and I think it's awesome that he had the balls to express his belief, even though it is an extremely unpopular one, especially in the media.

Well most religious people are selective in what they believe. They believe whatever is convenient or fits into their views

Not to go off topic...

Homosexually is condemned everywhere it is mentioned in the Bible. It's not an obscure old testament law that only applied to the Jews in 1500 BC.

Right, but he was quoting Leviticus.

It's a big deal only because he's a politician. Plenty of athletes are homophobes.

The religious aspect is pointless to debate...
