| Why is the Hurricane Center allowed to amend it's forecast? Posted by DanTiger I realize that it is in everyone's interes for the Hurricane Center to ammend the forecast halfway through the season but why is the original prediction never mentioned again? I have seen them countless times predice 2o named storms at the beginnign of the season and when there are only 3 halfway through they will change the forecast to 10 storms and end up close to the mark at the end of the season. What number is stored in their archives you ask? The number 10 and the original prediction disappears. This makes them appear extremely accurate when in fact they have no idea how many storms there will be until the season is halfway over and they know how many there have been already.
