Posted by L.A. We need to get out of Afghanistan pronto. We should never have been there in the first place. Ditto Iraq. quote:LINK Reply Back to Top |
| Both those wars were a waste of time, money, and lives. Seriously, who the hell cuts taxes and then starts two wars?? It's time to get out. Reply Back to Top |
| I could've sworn Obama said during the 2008 debates that his first order of business was to bring the troops home. No more war. What happened to that? Reply Back to Top |
| The Afghans know how things are going to play out and they want to be on the winning side. That is the reason why you don't give timelines and announce future troop withdraws based for political reasons... Reply Back to Top |
| The same thing happened with troop trained by the Green Berets in Lebanon thity years ago. The trained personnel would work for the highest bidder. Reply Back to Top |

quote:Yeah, you can't trust politicians. I would suggest not voting this time around. Reply Back to Top |

quote: That's what I was thinking. The Afghan Army won't have to abide by any interrogation "rules", and this guy had chosen, or was given, a "safe" role in the plot, so he may be vulnerable to aggressive questioning. Considering the location of the Camp, and the fact that the plot was likely laid out by the civilian, at least some very valuable information may have been gained as a result of his thankfully botching his role. quote: He never said that. He said he would get out of Iraq and divert resources to Afghanistan (remember him making hay stating that we took our eye off of the ball). He said once Afghanistan was taken care of (paraphrase and insinuation that once Bin Laden was dead), we would get out of Afghanistan. I will agree we never should have been in either place. I voted for Obama based on his stance relative to needless war as well (among other things). I am an idiot for doing so it would appear. I will give credit were it is due...he got us out of Iraq (the Bush timeline argument is bull shite as it is very doubtful Bush would have stuck to his own timeline if afforded the opportunity for a third term) and Bin Laden was killed on his watch. His placement of troops in Africa and his military involvement in Libya are highly questionable, as are the drone tactics of targeting individuals in nations for which we have not declared war, like Yemen. Big, slippery slope right there. Reply Back to Top |
| But those guys are the non-extremist Muslims aren't they? Aren't they supposed to have no animosity to Western Culture? This should be taken as evidence that Islam is incompatible with Western Culture. They are raised on the idea that their religion compels them to kill non-believers. Their leaders tell us that their scripture provides for tolerance of other faiths, but that tolerance isn't co-existence it is domination. Reply Back to Top |
| You know, wanting to kill westerners doesn't exactly mean you're an extremist Muslim. What if they're just fricking tired of you being there telling them what to do? Reply Back to Top |
quote: I don't care what they are, I have a problem with us flying drones over foreign nations and randomly killing people suspected of being terrorist. Drones drop bombs and bombs don't discriminate terrorist from the child beside them. Moreover, to my knowledge, congress has not authorized this tactical behavior. To that point, what if China decides to randomly start taking out US citizens they feel are a threat to them economically. There is a huge moral slippery slope IMO to using drones to kill terrorist in random places around the globe. I respect the opinions of others on this topic and see relevence in those opinions, but at the end of the day I think our current tactics fall outside of the basic concepts of the country. | The fact that they shot one of their own Afghan soldiers at point blank range to get things rolling and apparently were not able to get more than 2 of their own troops involved smacks of 3 individuals venting their anger over the Koran burning incident. In a heavily-Taliban area like that, my money is on the civilian being both Taliban-trained and the plot's instigator. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Is that what we've been doing? I look at it more as they have a choice to make. Let's move toward Western ideals or move toward a hardline interpretation of Islam. We've been waiting for them to decide for ten plus years. Which do you think they are choosing? Reply Back to Top |
