| I believe myself and Col Toddy reached a compromise on this a couple weeks back. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Now you are being ridiculous. The only way your question makes sense is if homosexuals are currently having children while not part of a state sanctioned same sex couple, and they would stop having those children if they were part of a state sanctioned same sex couple. I believe that when you have many children born or raised in non-traditional two parent households those children are not as well prepared to be productive members of society. Anything that is done that promotes having children and raising them in a non-traditional two parent household is not good for society since it increases the numbers of people ill-prepared to participate in society. Will there be exceptions among children born or raised in non-traditional two parent households? Sure, we are talking about billions of examples. But the expectations based on the large numbers is an increase in those unprepared. I think the unemployment rates and crime rates for children raised in two parent homes are lower than those for children who are not raised in two parent homes, which is evidence of the benefits of traditional marriage to society. I have no problems with the notion of state sanctioned economic contracts between any two consenting adults. Just don't give them the same benefits, or privileges, that we give the one that is best for continuation of society. Reply Back to Top |

quote: Since gay couples can't have children of their own we can't realistically talk about the welfare of children born to them. And I doubt seriously that many people would have children for the purpose of turning them over to gays. So, the REAL children in this discussion are those being born ALREADY outside of traditional marriage. I doubt very seriously that it's better for society or healthier for a child to grow up in orphanages and foster homes than to be raised and nurtured by two committed adults. Reply Back to Top |
quote: You never asked my feelings on adoption. I am supportive of adoption by anyonewho is committed to parenting a child and being a positive role model for the adopted child. I never claimed that love for a child, or concern for a child's well-being are monopolized by the traditional married couple. I simply wrote that a two parent household with a male and female parent is the optimum condition, not the only acceptable one. I don't have a problem with single persons adopting children. I think living with an adoptive parent is generally preferrable to living in an orphanage or foster home. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Sure we can, in the 21st century, lesbians get inseminated, gays get women to carry their sperm with a donor egg or the surrogate egg. quote: The above children are being created for gays not "saved" by gays. And not necessairly two adults as you suggest. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
