| re: Best Hawaii Island to spend a week? Windward side of Oahu is the place to go. With side trips to Honolulu. Reply Back to Top |
| Only been to Maui. It was legit. Reply Back to Top |
| I'd stay away from Hawaii honestly, Dec. 2012 is upon us and Hawaii islands is going to be one of the first to see shite hit the fan. Reply Back to Top |
| Funny you say that..seems like every time i go there something crazy is happening near/on the islands.. 2010--Kim Jung Il talking about sending nuclear missiles toward Hawai'i. Of course no one thought the lil bastard would do it, but i was kinda on edge after hearing the news. 2011--Tsunami after the earthquake in Japan..Newscasters said to expect a 6 foot surge and my condo was only blocks from Waikiki beachfront. Needless to say i made a mad rush to the ABC store for beer and chips and other supplies that would get me through. Never really amounted to anything as only Kona on the big island was hit really hard Reply Back to Top |

| Yup! And really are just tourist traps in convenient locations TBH..Wayy overpriced and some people who stay in Honolulu just skip the traffic but pay much more than they would at a Wal-Mart Reply Back to Top |
| Yeah I got my souvenirs for some at Walmart there Didn't get to go to the swap meet at the stadium that they have every Wed(I've heard that is best place to buy any souvenir type stuff). Reply Back to Top |

| It was for my coworkers Wiki...they got keychain/magnets with Hawaii on them and loved it. I got nicer stuff for B and my family elsewhere. Reply Back to Top |

quote: Gf of mine has a timeshare and was given 4 free nights at a timeshare there. She asked if I wanted to go. I only had to pay for airfare and one night at another hotel(we stayed for 6 nights). Was a girl's trip. Trust me...would have much rather gone there with him. She annoyed me to no end the entire time. NEVER going on vacation with her again. EVER. Reply Back to Top |
quote: you know i love giving you a hard time, nursey. I love Hawaii, and tropical islands in general. If I didn't love the American west so much, I guarantee you I'd move back to Guam in a heartbeat. The island lifestyle just fits me. Reply Back to Top |

| I was trying to figure out a way to move there when I was there I loved it out there so much. Course I hear when you live there it is different(mainlanders not so nice to you) Reply Back to Top |
quote: I never had any troubles when I was living in Guam. I have heard that native Hawaiian's give non-natives a lot of crap. But for the most part, I think a good personality goes a long way with those folks. Don't be a dick. Embrace their culture, and they will love you. I remember sitting at a village festival in Guam a long time ago and I sat down and talked with these older Chamorran's and just asked them about their culture and traditions, and was just very interested in them and their way of life, and they loved it. They wouldn't stop talking and they kept offering me food and beer. This post was edited on 5/15 at 1:48 pm Reply Back to Top |
Posted by Ariel on 5/15 at 1:49 pm to Chazz Reinhold I've been to all 4 of the main islands, and would go back to any of them. My favorite is Maui. There is great diving, beaches, and hiking. I always spend at least a day in Hana. If you go, the best restaurant on the island is Mama's Fish House. Reply Back to Top |
| Agree totally When i was working on the big island near Hawi, we met this little filipino/hawaiian janitor/groundskeeper guy (forgot his name). Well on one Saturday he invites us to his house for a barbeque. Needless to say i was stunned at the hospitality. He had a HUGE house overlooking the Pacific, and we all sat out and drank 6 ice chest full of beer as he and his wife cooked pork, fresh ahi just caught(tuna) made into sashimi, chicken and these little clams they catch off the rocks, grilled with worcestershire sauce I even got the courage to ask if i could watch the 2010 LSU-Ole Miss game, and lo and behold they already had it on the bigscreen in the house Reply Back to Top |
| I've only been to Maui but it was tremendous. Here is a sampling of what we did in two weeks: 1) Stayed in superior resorts and a few nights in off the beaten path areas 2) Hiked Haleakala crater at sunrise 3) snorkeling trips to smaller islands and molokini 4) hanging out at lahina town 5) Maui Brewing 6) Played golf at four badass courses 7) beach stuff--morning runs in the most gorgeous setting 8) swimming in the Oheo gulch and the seven pools and exploring lava caves 9) learned to surf I would live there if I could.
