Official Westbank food guide

So I am Algiers resident for the next year or so and need to know if there are any places to hit up while living in this food mecca. I know about DiMartino's, Pho Tau Bay, and O'Brien's grill but that is about it. Any suggestions? (preferably closer to Algiers)

love this place. told the owner last time i was in there that he needs to open up a place here in BR. would make bank if in a good spot like towne center area.

a little bit of a drive but Tennou is a very good japanese/sushi place. and speaking of asian, there is a huge asian market on berhman highway called the hong kong food market. my brother says they have all kinds of cool stuff if you are into that sort of thing.

i havent been in forever but apparently the red maple is very good. its off the westbank expressway.

Cucos has the best chips and salsa. their food is rather meh though. they do have an off the menu item that is great and i always get. alotta enchilada

Brothers has great poboys. they give you so much shrimp that you have a side of fried shrimp with your poboy

Empress of China for some chinese food. Place has always been really good

ill add some more after i speak with my fellow westbankers. ive been gone for awhile

Algier's doesn't have a ton of places in the local vicinity but I'll toss my westbank places at you.

Lil G's Seafood - Belle Chase (not that far away)
Moe's Pizza
Red Maple
Kim Son
Cafe Diblasi (solid italian)
Olive Branch Cafe - solid pizza*
Dry Dock Cafe*
Tan Dinh
New Orleans Food and Spirits
Mosca's
Philly's - great steak sandwiches. one in the oakwood mall and one up on the expressway by west jeff hospital. I love this place.

These are all westbank places. The * ones are located in Algiers. The other stuff is worth driving to imo.

I miss DiMartino's Po-boys

Red Maple's quality has gone down. So much so that business slumped to the point of them closing for lunch now.

Kim Son is great.

I eat Olive Branch a lot due to proximity to my office. The pizza is really good, and they have good pasta dishes as well.

I like DiBlasi's and Mandina's. Beef Connection is okay, but I think it's overpriced for the level of service and quality of food you get.

Chubby's in Algiers has good po-boys also. And there is a place in the shopping center by the Wal Mart that has good po-boys. I think it's Behrman Seafood, but I'm not 100% sure. There is a pho place right there as well, but it's average at best. Nowhere near Pho Tau Bay or Pho Hoa on Manhattan.

I've heard Noodles has good Chinese, but I've never been so I can't confirm.

I still need to go to Dry Dock and NO Food & Spirits.

ETA: I really like DiMartino's as well. And as someone mentioned, Tennou is really good. Cuco's is good for generic Mexican.

I've had good breakfast at Common Ground in Gretna. There is also a tiny restaurant just around the corner from Red Maple that I really liked, but I can't remember the name of it.

Kingfish Grill? THey had great sandwiches but i think they closed.

Ironic because years ago they were close to going under so they got a new chef and all. He was the chef at Clancy's and really brought the place back. Perhaps he left and the place went to shite again.

I forgot about them. They had some legit and cheap po-boys

chicken is meh, i prefer popeyes. However they catfish basket is pretty good. They also have solid po-boys. I remember when i was a kid they had the best damn chicken nuggets. They aren't the same anymore.

I just looked it up, it's Cafe Etienne. I've only been once, but the food and the atmosphere were both really good.

ETA: Also, the Chinese buffet by Rouse's on DeGaulle just re-opened under new management. I never went before, because I only heard bad things, and there is very little chance I go now, because eating lunch alone at a Chinese buffet is about the most depressing thing I can think of.

For Mexican - Los Panchos - corner of Stumpf & Terry pwky

For take home seafood, Drago Bros on Belle Chasse Hwy.

Otherwise, all of the places stated are good.

I'll second Dimartinos and Drago brothers.

Pho Tau Bay
Gattuso's
Red Maple(avoid the chargrilled oysters)
Thanh Thanh
Huey P's
China Doll
Da Wabbitt

I haven't been here long, just some places I've enjoyed.

Kingfish Grille is indeed closed and it's now a pharmacy. Cafe Etienne is on a completely different street...and it's pretty good.

I absolutely love Cafe 615...also known as Da Wabbit. Everything is good...but I particularly love their fried chicken and also the soft shell crab Orleans.

O'Brien's Grille, which is my favorite steak place in all of New Orleans area.

Additions...

Cafe Zen - Best sushi on the wank
Banana Blossom - Very good thai
Saffron - AMAZING indian
Sakura - Very reasonably priced hibachi and pretty darn good too

Other comments...

Dry Dock - Is just o.k. Everything is pretty much sysco. Same with Gattuso's.

Algiers is pretty lacking when it comes to good food...but Gretna is close and has some good choices.

I don't know if you're in the point, but if you are...the French Quarter is only a ferry ride away and then your choices are limitless.

That's a shame. I had a great cuban sandwich from there.

They sure did. The owner is a friend of mine. The rent was just too high there so he closed it to focus on the books that he writes.

I'm not a big sushi person but from everyone I talk to they all say Cafe Zen is solid.

Most of these have already been mentioned but my go to spots on the westbank are:

O'Brien's grill for fine dining
El Mesquite-Mexican
Cafe Diblasi-Italian
Mandina's-Italian
Cafe 615/Da Wabbit-Louisiana/home cooking
Gattuso's-For beers and eye candy waitresses Food is ok
China Doll-Chinese
N.O Food & Spirits-on Lapalco near Harvey canal
Little G's- Seafood in Belle Chasse
Sunray Grill
Common Grounds-breakfast
Brother's Restaurant Harvey
Billy Bob's-for BBQ, not much on the westbank in terms of BBQ
