ESPN to announce new round of "30 for 30" films
Posted by CFBFAN1121 on 5/15 at 7:55 am
Per the article, they will be called "30 for 30" since everybody referred to them that way anyway

Films I think are noteworthy are Pete Rose gambling and Ben Johnson's steroid scandal.

I think "broke" (about athletes who lose their fortunes) is way overdue. That one should be really interesting.

These documentaries are the best thing ESPN has ever did.

FACT: 30 for 30 and actual games are the only reasons to watch ESPN these days.

They need to do one of the 49ers-Cowboys rivalry of the early to mid 90s

It says that's just going to be a short film. I heard a 40-minute interview with Pete Rose on XM a few months back that was fricking phenomenal. Wish they would post it online somewhere.

I'm pretty sure they can't do anything directly NFL related because the NFL and NFL Films won't let them.

They had some indirectly related like Marcus DuPree and Todd Marinovich, but that's about it.

Mr. Schell said that “30 for 30” — which attracted an average of 1.2 million viewers for the initial showings of the documentaries — became a brand that was worth extending.

This leads me to believe that a lot of them will suck. I hope they dont but its espn and they are going to milk the shite out of this.

The going broke doc could be good but i have a feeling it will be something like The U documentary. I mean what is there to tell? They get 20-30 million or more over the course of a few years and they blow it on cars, houses, pussy, and an entourage. Not exactly something eye opening or surprising.

That probably explains the tweet from one of the Alabama players that ESPN was going to do a 30 for 30 documentary on the program. I believe that tweet was made a week or two ago.

He deleted it pretty quickly, too.
