| Best Concealed Carry Weapon???? Posted by CtotheVrzrbck Probably gonna buy a pistol this weekend. I've had my heart set on a XD 40 subcompact for awhile. I've got friends telling me 3 diff things. One that works at a gun shop carries a mini .380, says the 40 cals are too bulky and show too much if not wearing a coat. He recc. a Ruger .380. Another buddy I grew up with, his bro. owns a gun range and dabbles in trading and such, says a .45 with stopping power is the way to go. A cop drinking buddy says for CC a mini gun, or one made for women is really good because you don't want to be advertising that you're carrying. I've been looking pretty hard at S&W's BG380, it's got a 2.75" barrel and a 6+1 capacity and is pretty small and concealable, and it has an built in laser sight. The built in sight concerns me on how difficult it might be to calibrate. I figure have 6 in the clip will be enough, If I ever had to use it in a split second situation I'm probably only getting off 3 shots max anyway. I don't foresee a movie style shootout, just someone trying something stupid and me going Zimmerman. I do want something that is really concealable and not noticeable as I'll probably carry it when I make sales calls and do work in rougher parts of town. I'm not concerned about anything in particular, it's just time to be prepared if needed. ETA: Here's how I concealed my weapons in the past. ![]() This post was edited on 5/15 at 7:51 am Reply Back to Top |

Posted by Schwartz on 5/15 at 7:48 am to CtotheVrzrbck Depends on how easily you can conceal. My friend carries a 4.25" bbl 1911 without issue. I wanted something that I could pocket carry, so my current carry buddy is a Walther PPS in 9mm. Also, OB. ETA: JTF This post was edited on 5/15 at 7:49 am Reply Back to Top |
| sorry to be that guy, but this is a good thread for the outdoor board. ETA: do a search over there and you can find several threads about it actually. This post was edited on 5/15 at 7:49 am Reply Back to Top |
| The one you can shoot well, can conceal, and will actually carry everyday is the best gun. Those answers are differnent for everyone, so the choice will be up to you. I suggest you go to a range/gunstore that allows you to try different guns and choose that way. Reply Back to Top |

I've been thinking about getting one, but I still haven't felt comfortable enough with a .380, but that's just me personally. You can still find some really nice concealable 9mm subcompacts. "Thin is in." S&W just came out with the new M&P Shield, and Springfield should be shipping the XDs 45 soon, with 9mm and .40 to follow. 40 is a great caliber, but it's a pretty high pressure round, which leads to pretty "snappy" recoil, especially in small/light frame guns. You've got power but you probably won't be able to get accurate shots as fast as you could with a 9, .380, or even a .45. Reply Back to Top |

| Sig P238 is best out there right now. IMO I carry a Glock 36 which is a slim line .45 Reply Back to Top |
| The trigger pull on the BG380 is absolutely terrible. Check out the Sig P238. It's a single action 1911-style gun in a super small 380 cal frame. Easy to carry in a pocket or a boot and still a nice gun to shoot. Reply Back to Top |

| My favorite handgun I've ever shot is a H&K45 Compact. But its just like anything else, all personal preference. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
