| re: no offer for Mark Laird.....OCS................really............. I really don't think it had anything to do with competition level. LSU has had 2 starters come from MPSA schools it's just that the talent level at WR in Louisiana is crazy. Reply Back to Top |
| It was the first, or maybe second, year of the 35 man roster limit and he wasn't good enough to warrant a spot on a team that won the national championship. Reply Back to Top |
| I saw the kid play and he is impressive. He walked down Bracken in the dome!!! Not exactly how fast Bracken is, but he has enough speed to sign with Southern Miss. I was more impressed with Laird than I was with Ronald Martin. Gonna be interesting with this kid. He's not bad!!! If I'm not mistaken, Ronnie Fiest played at W. St. John which is 1A, so the level of competition is somewhat irrelevant. You can either play or not. Les Miles and his staff know what they are doing. This kid will get a fair chance. | He is kind of light but looked better than Sylve to me. This was Laird's jr. year. Why Tech or ULM wasn't all over this kid I don't know. Reply Back to Top |
| So who is this Brian Laird kid anyway? Reply Back to Top |
| OP was wrong. It's Mark Laird. He played WR/Safety for OCS as well as P/CF. He was the MVP of the 1A state championship in both football and baseball. Reply Back to Top |
| I can't think of a walk on to make an impact at LSU at WR since Brett Bech, and he left LSU 18 years ago. It's a tough row to hoe, but I'm glad that he's going to give it a shot. Quality walk ons provide valuable depth and make our scout teams much better---young men like Mr. Laird are very valuable to the program, even if he never contributes during a game. quote: I know you post a lot on OCS but, I am not sure you are in the complete know on this subject... So I will help you out a bit. He IS coming to play ball at LSU but, he is not walking on the baseball team at this time. Les Miles met with him back at the first of baseball season and told him that he liked him and that he wanted him to come down as a preferred walk on and they will evaluate him more then.. He is coming in June so he can workout with the team and get a head start. He IS on the football team. Everyone one on here has done nothing but bash this kid since someone brought up his name. Some label it as North La homerism, some say he's to slow, some say he's only 6'. But I have yet to hear anyone provide anything with substance on why LSU should not go after him.. I can name a bunch of 1A kids that did well at LSU. I can name a bunch of 2, 3, 4, and 5A kids that flopped. Oh yeah some were even from south La. If there is any homerism going on it is definitely on the south La side. The reason not a lot of schools were after him was because he only went to 2 camps. Alabama and ULL. He hurt his back at the beginning of the 2011 baseball season and was not able to attend any camps until very late. As a matter of fact he attended the last LSU baseball camp in December/January. He went 4/5 and set the camp record for the 60. The coaches told him that he was definitely SEC talent but they had already given out all of their scholarships, that he would have to wait until after the draft and until they knew who was coming or not.At the Alabama football camp that he did attend he ran a 4.45. Now I am not sure if they know how to run a stop watch in Tuscaloosa but, that was what he ran. He is 6'2" 180 and runs a 4.45. He has played in 4 championship games 2 for football, 2 for baseball all against south la's best they had to offer. He won MVP of all of them. Everyone, I am not saying he is going to set the world on fire and be better than Jerry Rice. All I am saying have some evidence not blinded opinion about a kid before you talk about him. He has gone up against kids that are or will be playing in the SEC and he has done nothing but shut them down or beat them. BTW, 10 of the top 11 best sr receivers this year per rivals/scout were all 6'1" - 6'2" 170-190. OCS does not do weights like everyone else, they don't lift heavy to be stronger, they lift to be faster. They had 17 kids this year that ran 4.7 or faster. 5 that ran 4.5 or better. Try and discredit it all you want. I have facts not opinions. I know what Mark can do, I know that if given a fair shake he will see plenty of playing time on both fields. You were 100% accurate on one thing though.... His girlfriend does go to LSU... Reply Back to Top |
| that post deserves a boom shakalaka. i got zero dogs in this discussion (didn't see him play), other than to wish the kid the best in his gridiron pursuit. Reply Back to Top |

quote: Not true.....I hope the kid gets a fair shot and does well at LSU We played OCS in baseball earlier this year....what position does he play again? Reply Back to Top |
| Isnt Laird dating Willie Jess Robertson's daughter? Reply Back to Top |
quote:Yeah, the problem was that the OP styled this as a gripe that Laird didn't get an offer, so everybody started defending the coaching staff's decision not to offer, which meant that they said that he wasn't good enough for an offer. If the OP had instead made a post about how the very talented Mark Laird was coming to LSU as a walk on, everyone here would have been excited and posting Reply Back to Top |
P/CF here's a pic ![]() Reply Back to Top |
| If u are referring to Denham springs then he pitched the first 3 innings and played cf the rest. 3 inn pitched 1 hit allowed, 3k. Kept DS scoreless through 3. Btw... This is not the only thread about this kid that has been on this site. Everyone is the same, to slow, to short, not "athletic" enough. I guess we shall see. Reply Back to Top |
| Not everyone... Reply Back to Top |
| His girlfriend told me he was walking on to the baseball team about a month ago and I personally think he has a better chance at playing in baseball then football so I'm hoping baseball. And I know he is fast and has a good stride but I personally think a legit 40 for him would be around a 4.55 hand timed starts from hs coaches aren't very accurate must of the time. Ocs used to do laser timed 40s about 5 years ago but then the coach who owned it left. I dont think they have one now but you never know with bristo if so, maybe he does run a high 4.4 Reply Back to Top Refresh |
