| Coach Payton and BountyGate Posted by SoCalSaintsFan I don't know if this was discussed elsewhere, but if evidence turns up that proves BountyGate is bunch of BS, will coach Payton be reinstated along with the other players who were suspended? The problem I see is that the process could take a while and probably not affect this season anyway. One could always hope though.Reply Back to Top |
| We have about 3 months til preseason football. You'd really like to have him back by then at the latest. I don't think this thing comes to a head before the season starts, and I think it will have to by then for him to have a chance. Once the season starts I think the inherent storylines that develop will take over instead Reply Back to Top |
| It has been discussed, but I see that you're new. To answer the question, I say there's zero chance coach Payton plays this year. The reason I say that is the NFL won't show any evidence until they're forced, and that would only be down through a court, and that could take a long time. By the time that comes around, it might be next season already. Just my 2 cents. Reply Back to Top |
quote: this. I'd say best case senario (highly unlikely it actually happens) Goodell ends up being fired and SP gets a shite load of money from the NFL in damages. But I doubt it's completely false. I firmly believe the NFL/media are making it look 100x worse than it is but I do believe there's something there. Reply Back to Top |
| That too Reply Back to Top |
| I said this in other posts. Even if this is all "proven" to be BS, Goodell will go all Dan Rather and insist there was a pay-to-injure scheme even if the evidence was manufactured. There's no union to force his hand on the coaches. Slim to none chance we'll get SP back this year. Reply Back to Top |
quote: I agree. Even if he is reinstated, I don't see him playing this year. Reply Back to Top |
| Seems like Federal or State Employment Laws should come into play here somewhere eventually!! Reply Back to Top |
| I don't think CSP would want to risk long term damage to that knee by hitting the field too early anyways. Reply Back to Top |

| There is ZERO chance of Payton returning. He will serve the entirety of his suspension. Look, the punishments are WAY too harsh and completely agenda driven, but the idea that quote:is wishful thinking on the part of the Saints faithful. If it were all BS, there is no way that Payton, Loomis and Williams would have laid down like they did. They had the means to lawyer up and fight just like Vilma. They haven't done it. If they were innocent, don't you think they would have fought a lot harder? Reply Back to Top |
| You mean evidence like... oh I dunno.... Payton and Williams saying yeah there was a bounty system and we didn't stop it when we were told to? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Payton back this year but come on already, this is a done deal. Reply Back to Top |
| Don't count on seeing all evidence until all suspensions are over and done with. Reply Back to Top |
quote: If this mostly shite Goddell fabricated, I don't understand why the coaches and "the loomis" arent lawyering up and taking this to court. They just seem to be bending over and taking it. Reply Back to Top |
quote: very astute prediction. i say you are right! Reply Back to Top |
quote: They have no recourse, I'm pretty sure. They appealed the ruling, but it went straight back to Goodell. There is no union protection for them. And anyone who has worked for a shitty boss in the real world can tell you that when somebody wants you fired there's nothing you can do about it. You just bend over and take it. Especially without a union having your back. Reply Back to Top |
quote: There's that, and the fact that he's 48 years old and hasn't taken a snap in the NFL since 1987. Reply Back to Top |

| Dammit. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Do you really believe it's fabricated? I don't. I believe that we had a pay for big plays scheme that occasionally included pay for someone's head. I think Goodell just jumped the shark and fricked up the due process. I think the players get reduced penalties in a oj simpson kinda way; not a innocent way. If it was fabricated, I think the saints side would be much much more vocal without a doubt. That we know of, they have audio of our coach saying "hit the qb I've got the first one", a statement claiming williams told players to not reveal any details to an investigation. Are you really naive enough to think that we weren't doing something wrong? You can look at it as a lawyer and say there's something here we can work with and that's all well and fine, but the team is still guilty imo. I think the real problem is the punishments grossly outweighing the crime, especially considering the scapegoat mentality. This post was edited on 5/10 at 1:18 pm Reply Back to Top Refresh |
