Posted by THRILLHO on FB, super liberal teacher sort of friend of mine is going on about how pissed he is about the NC ruling today. Says he will never accept a job in NC (LOL). I tell him "Gay marriage is just as legal in North Carolina as it is in your Wisconsin, your "civil union" talk is essentially "separate but equal bullshite"." PS: sorry, I'm drunk. Reply Back to Top |
| a lot depends on his stance the "civil union" angle is a middle ground in my eyes, but many people on the gay side of the argument have gotten so extreme that they see civil unions as basically no gain. if he's in this camp, it's an effective argument if he's reasonable and accepts CUs, then it's not effective Reply Back to Top |

quote: I've never understood the argument against gay marriage. Is there really anything to it beyond "God made Adam and Eve - not Adam and Steve"? How does the marriage of Bruce and Todd effect anyone else? They pay taxes. The abide by the laws of this country. ??? Why should laws exist/be created that deny them the same rights that everyone else in this country has? IMO history will not look kindly on these states that are going out of their way to deny rights to their citizens. Reply Back to Top |

Posted by ScoopAndScore on 5/9 at 2:35 pm to SlowFlowPro quote: This is exactly it. And I don't understand why the libtards can't just accept that this is the whole issue that a large % of Americans have with it. Instead of making up reasons like population decreases or anything else, just realize it's a religious belief. To many many Americans, homosexuality is completely wrong. Reply Back to Top |
quote:I agree. This is poitics and there are always compromises that have to be made. This generation of gay people will have to settle with civil unions and eventually people will be less homophobic and allow them to be married. Reply Back to Top |

quote: But the federal government recognizes marriages. And we could spin into a whole other argument over whether or not it should/shouldn't but the fact is: it does. There are advantages to being married. Taxes, benefits/pensions, health insurance... and quote: So? Many religions are against pre-marital sex, but nobody's pushing for a constitutional ammendment or a federal or state law against it. Many religions are against a lot of things (integration, teaching evolution/science, dancing). But I don't see how that matters at all in the discussion. Posted by thetempleowl on 5/9 at 4:11 pm to a want I am so tired of this crap. I just wish the supreme court would come out and say this crap was unconstitutional. That would stop all these stupid redneck states from wasting everyones time over stuff like this. I mean really. You hate homosexuals that much that you won't even let them be as miserable as you are in marriage or share in the joy that is divorce. And sorry. Marriage in this country is a legal merger/contract as has been stated before. There is no religion in this government. At the end of the day within ten years the supreme court will come out and say all these laws are unconstitutional and gays will be able to get married. But I guess the lobbyists have to make their money and the politicians have to get bribed so this issue will get kicked around for a while yet. Plus, and don't forget this, these congressmen have to have something to distract everyone from them screwing up the country because they are getting rich by taking advantage of the system.
