quote:guess we should ban all sports and support the math club. Sounds like someone who wasn't able to make the team in high school and has been bitter since. Reply Back to Top |

Posted by diddydirtyAubie on 5/6 at 3:09 pm to volfan30 So this guy would rather have guys not go to college at all rather than have guys play football and have a shitty major? This post was edited on 5/6 at 3:10 pm Reply Back to Top |

| Malcolm Gladwell has joined the chorus and they will be debating that college football should be banned. How different are dogfighting and football? LINK This post was edited on 5/6 at 3:42 pm Reply Back to Top |
| If college football were to be banned, that would leave one real money making sport in schools, and that's a sport where a lot of schools actually lose money. Does anyone think that if college football ever goes away (due to head injuries/other issues), that many universities may just say frick it to college sports altogether? Reply Back to Top |
| Banning football would be one way to end Title IX...well, all sports on a college campus. Reply Back to Top |
quote: i think that is the end goal for this niche Reply Back to Top |
| Without college football, many schools, including LSU, are a lot less successful academically, bc nobody wants to go there Reply Back to Top |
quote: Ask the average student at a major school if they want those football programs to go away. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Gladwell is a smart man who will present a reasoned opinion. You may disagree with his arguments, but they won't be silly, they won't be unsupported, and they won't be nonsense. I'm not sure I've ever heard Gladwell say something that I would characterize as abjectly stupid. Reply Back to Top |
quote: Their hand would be forced. You've got Title IX on one hand, and then you've got no cash flow on the other. So, yeah, they might just say "frick it, we'll have intramural sports". Reply Back to Top |
quote: Agreed. Why would schools that lose money on basketball bother keeping women's field hockey afloat? Seems easier to cut all those scholarships and to not waste money on facilities, coaches, and other expenses. Reply Back to Top Refresh |
