| re: Is "Supposebly" a word? (and others) I "seent" it. frick that is annoying and 99% of people from walker/denham say this. One person from my old work who I considered at the time to be pretty intelligent, actually argued with me about this trying to give examples of how you would use it. | I use to hear some stuff when I worked with the public. This doesn't involve how someone pronounces a word or anything, but this story falls into the people saying crazy shite category. I worked with this guy who was telling us about his wife and how she unexpectedly came across some extra money. She was trying to figure out what to do with it. Around the guy's friends (her husband) she says "I figured out what I am going to do. I will put half at one bank and half at another. That way, instead of getting 3% on all of it. I can get 3% at that bank and 3% at the other. That way it will be 6%" I am not sure if that was the exact percent, but you get the point. Reply Back to Top |

quote:Malapropism From Wikipedia... A malapropism is the misuse of similar sounding words, especially with humorous results. An example is Yogi Berra's statement: "Texas has a lot of electrical votes,"[1] rather than "electoral votes". Finally!! Reply Back to Top |

| A friend of mine thought "Making Ends Meet" was instead "Making End's Meat," i.e concluding your successful endeavor with a good steak. FWIW he's normally a brilliant guy, but we still give him hell for it. Reply Back to Top |
| My brother was a pretty bright guy, but for the longest time he thought they would cut off a certain body part when you went to a Penal Colony. Reply Back to Top |
| That's not a portmanteau. A portmanteau is two words put together to make a new word, like spork (spoon + fork). Reply Back to Top |
