2012 NFL Mock Draft - Final Full Update (4/22/12)
Posted by DaGarun on 4/22 at 5:36 pm
4/22/12: Okay, here’s my final full update. I will try to list the reasons for some selections that were tough calls. The real world will not match this, I’m certain, and a trade or two will really jack things up. But here are my picks, assuming no trades. I removed one of the mocks that hasn’t been updated in the last 2 weeks from my formula, so now we’re back down to 11.

For more info on the evolution/methodology, you can find
April 8 thread here or the April 15 update here

I put my pick in BOLD

Here we go:
---------------------------------------------------------

ROUND ONE:

1.) Colts - Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford
2.) Redskins (from Rams > picks) - Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
3.) Vikings - Matt Kalil, T, USC
4.) Browns – Trent Richardson, RB, Alabama
5.) Buccaneers – Morris Claiborne, CB,
6.) Rams (from Redskins > #2 pick) – Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma St
7.) Jaguars – Melvin Ingram, DE, South Carolina
Here’s where it gets interesting. The 11 mocks I used had 5 different folks going to the Jags here. Coples and Cox both landed here twice, but Ingram gets the nod with 5.
8.) Dolphins – Ryan Tannehill,QB, Texas A&M
Nobody other than Tannehill really registered here, so I guess he’s headin’ to South Beach
9.) Panthers –Fletcher Cox, DE, Mississippi St.
With Ingram off the board, the Panthers take the fast-rising Cox off the board
10.) Bills – Reilly Reiff, OT, Iowa
Some talk that Gailey might not be high on Reiff, but I still think this is what they’ll do.
11.) Chiefs – Dontari Poe, NT, Memphis
Chiefs take the gamble on a guy that wowed at the combines, but never really displayed all that much on the field. Time will tell.
12.) Seahawks – Luke Kuechly, LB, Boston College
This seemed to be a pretty popular selection, though Floyd and DeCastro also got some love.
13.) Cardinals – Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame
Another general consensus, though offensive linemen Adams, Martin and Glenn also got some notice
14.) Cowboys - Quinton Coples, DE, UNC
Several mocks have the Cowboys taking Barron here, and I think they might (or DeCastro), but if Coples is still on the board, they get Ware some help instead. Tough call, though.
15.) Eagles - Michael Brockers, DT,
Well, with all the linemen the Eagles wanted gone at this point, I had a tough time deciding if Reid would go BPA or reach a little for a lineman. I went with the latter, but other mocks had the Eagles preferring Barron, or Mercilus. Another tough call
16. Jets – Courtney Upshaw, DE/LB, Alabama
Seems like a good fit for the Jets here.
17.) Bengals (from Raiders > Carson Palmer) - David DeCastro, G, Standford
Kirkpatrick is an option here too, as is Barron, but you can’t have too many good linemen, and DeCastro is reportedly ready to start from day one.
18.) Chargers – Cordy Glenn, C, Georgia
Barron is still on the radar, as is Chandler Jones, but I’ll stick with Glenn here
19.) Bears - Whitney Mercilus, DE/LB, Illinois
Other than CB Gilmore from USCe, the mocks seem to be leaning toward the Bears getting help in on the lines. I went with Mercilus here, but really could have gone in several directions
20.) Titans - Stephon Gilmore, CB, South Carolina
Titans get help for aging secondary. Kirkpatrick was the first inclination, but recent mocks seem to show Gilmore moving up at Dre’s expense.
21.) Bengals - Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
Really thought about Barron here, but it seems the Bengals need more help at corner
22.) Browns (from Falcons > Julio Jones) - Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor
Is he the real deal or a byproduct of RGIII’s Heisman campaign? The Browns want to find out.
23.) Lions – Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford
Best OT still on the board gets Stafford some injury insurance
24.) Steelers – Dont'a Hightower, LB, Alabama
What, the Steelers like defense? Who knew?
25.) Broncos - Mark Barron, S, Alabama
Some noise about Jerel Worthy out there, and a bunch of mocks had Michael Brockers going here. But in this mock, he’s gone to the Eagles, so Barron is the BPA.
26.) Texans - Stephen Hill, WR, Georgia Tech
I tend to agree with the sentiments in last week’s thread that Randle might be a better fit here, but I’m not seeing that much first round interest in him. And there seems to be quite a bit for Hill. But ask Detroit: Georgia Tech WRs ain’t all bad!
27.) Patriots (from Saints > Mark Ingram) – Devon Still, DT, Penn State
Pats were really interested in Barron, and Andre Branch is an option, but Still is the one I’d go with, and hope Branch falls 4 more slots.
28.) Packers - Nick Perry, DE/LB, USC
Shea McClellin is sneaking up some boards, but I went with the guys with a higher ADP here.
29.) Ravens - Peter Konz, C, Wisconsin
Chandler Jones was a thought here, as was Mike Adams
30.) 49ers – Colby Fleener, TE, Stanford
Niners try and duplicate the success of the 2 TE set in New England, and take the top TE off the board. Considering their luck at drafting WRs lately, that’s probably a good idea.
31.) Patriots - Andre Branch, DE/OLB, Clemson
Well, Branch is still there, so the Pats scoop him up with one of their several hundred picks in the draft.
32.) Giants – Mike Adams, OT, Boise State
With Jonathan Martin gone, Mike Adams is the next on the list. Some talk about RBs Doug Martin or Lamar Miller here, but I think the Giants will stay conservative.

On to Round 2…

ROUND TWO:

33.) Rams – Chandler Jones, DE/OLB, Syracuse
BPA, though no mocks had him here.
34.) Colts – Jerel Worthy, DT, Michigan State
Janoris Jenkins a possibility, as is Fleener if the Niners pass him over
35.) Vikings - Rueben Randle, WR,
Still think Randle could (should?) sneak into the Texans hands, but if not, the Vikes will snap him up to give Ponder a weapon
36.) Buccaneers – Doug Martin – RB, Boise
Since the Browns took Richardson at #4, the Bucs are happy to wait until the 2nd round for Martin
37.) Browns – Bobbie Massie, OT, Ole Miss
Another guy moving up the charts. Richardson needs some blockers…
38.) Jaguars - Juron Criner, WR, Arizona
With Hill, Wright and Randle gone, the Jags go with the next WR on the list.
39.) Rams (from Redskins > #2 pick) - Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama
40.) Panthers - Shea McClellin – DE/LB, Boise
Lots of options here, including WR Jeffery or Sanu or CB Dennard. But McClellin’s been moving up too, and might not make it past the Pack at 28.
41.) Bills - Zach Brown, OLB, North Carolina
WR Jeffery is another option here. Or maybe WR Quick?
42.) Dolphins - Alshon Jeffery, WR, South Carolina
Tannehill’s gotta have somebody to throw to, right…?
43.) Seahawks - Kendall Reyes, DT, Connecticut
Mocks have the Seahawks looking for DL help, so I went with highest ADP on the board
44.) Chiefs - Brandon Weeden, QB, Oklahoma State
Chiefs need to start looking to the future at QB
45.) Cowboys – Harrison Smith, SS, Notre Dame
Passing on Barron at #14 makes S a must-have for the Cowboys in the 2nd round. If one of the WRs falls, they could go that way to replace Robinson from last year, too, but I hope not.
46.) Eagles – Mohamed Sanu, WR, Rutgers
Man, I really didn’t know what to do here. This is a shot in the dark… I’m sure OBUDan will set me straight
47.) Jets - David Wilson, RB, Virginia Tech
Another wild guess. Jets might go WR here, too…
48.) Patriots (from Raiders > Barksdale) – LaMichael James – RB, Oregon
49.) Chargers – Trumaine Zeitler, OG, Wisconsin
50.) Bears – Jeff Allen – OT, Illinois
51.) Eagles (from Cards > Kolb) – Kirk Cousins – QB, Michigan St.
A lot of folks have LB Lavonte David going here, but I’m going to guess QB
52.) Titans - Amini Silatolu, G, Midwestern State
53.) Bengals – Lamar Miller, RB, Miami
54.) Lions –Jayron Hosley – CB, Virgina Tech
55.) Falcons – Kelechi Osemele – OG, Iowa State
56.) Steelers – Chris Polk, RB, Washington
57.) Broncos - Alfonzo Dennard, CB, Nebraska
58.) Texans – Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson
59.) Packers – Trumaine Johnson, CB, Montana
60.) Ravens – Lavonte David, OLB, Nebraska
61.) 49ers – Brian Quick – WR, Appalachian St.
62.) Patriots – Josh Robinson, CB/KR, Central Florida
63.) Giants – Vinny Curry, DE/OLB, Marshall

Still out there…

James Brown – OG, Troy
Bobby Wagner[/u[, LB, Utah State
[u]Brock Osweiler
, QB, Arizona State
Ronnell Lewis, DE/LB, Oklahoma
Mychal Kendricks, ILB, California

I could live with this. He could take Brian Dawkins' spot.

Won't happen. They are looking to trade up for Gilmore.

Yeah, a trade or two renders a lot of this moot. The big game changer here is Brockers at 15. If I'm wrong there, a lot of stuff changes...

Theres no way Chandler Jones gets out of the first round IMO

I wouldn't like this. I saw him get torched too many times in college by average receivers. Darvin Adams owned him in 2010.

I guess so. I also root for Detroit Tigers in baseball.

I never noticed that until I made my sports room a few years back.

I agree but, that's the word here in Denver. BPA has to be the choice no matter what position. Bronco's are in a win now mode.

Would like to see texans draft RR even though it would be a reach pick

15.) Eagles - Michael Brockers, DT,

This one is tough. I agree with your placement of Cox, as I think he's a highly coveted guy right now that will go top 10. Will the Eagles be the team to move up to get him? Will the Seahawks, who reportedly have expressed interest in moving up? Cox SEEMS to be the Eagles top target, but no one can be sure.

As for Brockers, it's tough to say. The Eagles brought him in for a private workout. For our philosophy, we typically value one-gap, penetrating DTs, even from the NT position and I'm not sure that's Brockers game... BUT Washburn may see that potential, as he is so raw and unfinished. Add to that that middle of the defense run-stopping was a major weakness and it wouldn't shock me if Brock was the choice. But he doesn't seem like the most "natural" system fit at the moment.

Actually wouldn't shock me at all. Reid has shown a deference to localish products in the past (Westbrook a few years back, Shady McCoy, and Jaiqwan Jarrett last year) and he fills a major need for the Eagles in terms of a big, RZ threat at WR. He hasn't really been linked to us much, but seeing as how he plays right down the road, the Eagles have probably seen him plenty and know what he's capable of. Wouldn't shock me at all if this is the pick.

I'm still mystified about what the Eagles will do. So many people say they are targeting QB high. All the Tannehill stuff seems to have washed up, so that means a guy in the 2nd makes a little more sense, but then you have a serious drop in talent at the position. Cousins isn't worth a pick this high, but it is where he will go regardless.

I do think Lavonte David or Bobby Wagner make more sense from a need perspective here, but who knows what the Eagles are thinking.

Man, I love the draft. I'm getting pumped.

Please neaux. We have a pretty damn good 3rd down back already and just drafted two backs that havent had the chance to show what they can do

2nd round needs to be either defense, developmental WR, or Oline depth

For some reason I think Hill is coming off the board before the Texans can draft him. There are a few teams that need receivers in the 1st Round.

Doubtful. Recievers always drop

Good point on the Pats. But with SI many picks, I thought they may take a flier on an upside guy. Maybe WR Quick instead?

If the Broncos don't draft someone for Peyton to throw to with one of their first 2 picks they should just fold that franchise

Ehh hes very unpolished with might make it difficult for him to make it through camp with all the reciever competition we have this year (Edleman, Stallwortg, Branch, Gonzales). If a top reciever falls then Id love to pounce on that but its not a need so much that we need to reach on a guy

With that second pick in the second round I wouldnt mind getting Brandon Taylor unless they can get him in the 3rd. Might be a reach but we need talent at saftey and theyve showed some intrest in him and im not so sure they get a saftey in the first 3 picks

Look for the Cowboys to drop down in the first round to pick up Barron. Also look for them to get active in the second round to go after Reuben. You heard it here first.
