Don choked a bitch to death.

But he was dreaming.

The whole tone was dark like the ad the young guy pitched. It showed the freak show interest in the macabre begin to emerge. The white wash of the early 60s is beginning to wear off.
This episode was ok. I dont like dream sequences. When you take choking scene away, nothing really happened. Just a lot of symbolism (money in the purse, dead girl under the bed with her with her cinderella shoe sticking out, Sally hiding under the couch

Thought the episode was meh. Maybe one of the worst of the series so far.

It could be that I'm just burnt out on this racism shite with the Trevan thing going on, but I thought that angle was overdone. I mean I wouldn't leave my shite out in front of my best friends, much less the new hire at the office who just caught sleeping in the office.

I also thought the Don choking a bitch scene was way to over the top. I get it, he doesn't want to cheat on Megan but does he really have to kill a girl in his dream?

Did you notice the Richard Speck event floating around in the background.

One of the worst episodes ever - dumb question but has jon Hamm always been director?

No. He also didn't direct this ep. In fact, I think the only ep he's directed is last weeks, which, incidentally, was (IMHO) a great episode.

I thought he directed this one as well, but he didn't. The season premier counted as two episodes, so this was the fourth. He only directed the third one or the first three. It's too late for me to care.

I think most are in agreement that this season has been a bit of a step down so far. Still a great show, but something's different.

Peggy wasn't racist; it was just awkward. If anybody has black friends there's inevitably an awkward moment like that. I've learned a good way to play it off is be like "yeah you better not steal that, bro!" and laugh.

I don't agree that this season is down as a whole. I really liked the first 2 (or 3). This episode was my only disappointment of the season so far, but at least it sets up some good scenarios for down the line.

Who else thinks Roger and Joan finally wind up together?

Before I read through the whole thread... a few of my thoughts...

First, I generally thought the episode was okay. There were a few parts I really liked. The parts with Joan were good and were the first real dramatic moments of the season so far outside of the Roger/Pete stuff. There was finally some resolution to what Greg did to Joan in Don's office that time.

Don seems to be going from one episode to the next. The fever dream wouldn't be such a big disappointment for me if the character didn't seem to be in a rut. For a second it seemed like Don was gonna be in his first real dilemma of the season.

I liked the darker themes, but it wasn't enough to make the episode notable. It wasn't like the episode where Sally thought she was being haunted by her grandfather, which is one of my favorite episodes.

And I like the new guy. We'll see how he goes.

New guy is the high point so far. And Peggy's getting progressively more attractive.

On the other hand, Meghan is like a less interesting Betty, and I'm not too keen of the neutered Roger or the diminished Don.

Hamm produced this episode. It said so in the credits.

This episode is one of thise "nothing happened" episodes Mad Men get knocked for. It looks weak in light of the awesome 1st and 2nd of this season.

Odd you mention that b/c I thought the same exact thing, but just chalked it up to the door slamming.
