American Sniper interview on CSPAN today
Posted by Zach on 4/7 at 3:39 pm

Chris Kyle. Riveting interview on Book Review for the whole hour. Did any of you see it?

I'm working from memory but here are some snippets:

He doesn't think the flag, the pledge or the national anthem are corny. They mean a lot to him.

He thinks protesters against the war should protest Congress and the President. Soldiers don't choose their battles.

He was caught in a fire fight and saw a soldier go down with a really bad gut shot. He knew the kid would die but he picked him up and carried him toward a Humvee. The kid said "Don't tell my momma that I died screaming in pain." Chris thought to himself "Hell, kid I don't know who you are and I'm never gonna see your momma."
But instead he said "We'll make it look good, kid." "The kid was dead before I finished the lie."

"I don't fight for Iraq. I fight for America so the Muslims won't send any more of their shite over here. I don't give a flying frick about Iraq."

Phone call about Trayvon re: restricting guns.
Him: "I'm a big supporter of the 2nd amendment. But there are a lot of idiots who don't need to have guns. I'm not keeping up with the Trayvon case so I have no opinion. I've only heard one side of the story from the press."

PS... All proceeds from his book are going to charity.

An honest man! And a warrior! I think that I ordered his book just to support him, but never got it. I hope that interview is replayed on C-Span; maybe I can catch it. Thanks, Z.

I wish they would've had this stance 10 years ago.

All due respect to his achievements, but contrary to popular belief snipers are among the most boring people in existence. It doesn't just takes nerves of steel to patiently sit for eons waiting on a target to come into your line of sight, it takes a lack of mental imagination and creativity. None of the comments you posted were interesting in the least.

Two in my family, and several of their colleagues over the years

Decent story tellers, but I would never read any book they wrote.

So a couple of your family members are boring, I believe that. But you have claimed there is some connection between MOS and personality, you are full of crap. There is not.

Just remembered another quote. His first book signing was in Dallas on the day of the NC game between LSU and Bama. He wanted to see it but couldn't get his publisher to change the date.

Kyle: "Well, it was raining and I thought since LSU and Bama were playing no one would show up. I could get out of there and see game. 12,000 people showed up for an autographed copy. I signed every one. Some people seemed nervous asking for a picture with me. I told them I was way more nervous than them. I'm not comfortable in crowds."

One of my neighbors was a sniper in VN. He lives 4 houses down. He killed 7. When I asked him how he felt about it he said "Hey, they had snipers trying to kill me."
He's a very smart, but not very educated, normal retired guy. He did have marital problems upon his return from VN. Remarried and living with his wife of 20 years. They have 6 grown children between them and their prior marriages.
They've both got a great sense of humor and throw some terrific parties.

How many kills did they have? Since they are family members I'm sure you know.

Interesting. You had 2 relatives and SEVERAL other colleagues. Let's say 6 people in all that were snipers and you NEVER asked. And they NEVER told.
Yet, I have only known ONE and he told me all about it. How odd.

Yeah, his "personal accounts" with snipers, reek of bull shite. I suspect he knew his comments would get him attention, and that's why he posted them.

Idiots, they always make it so easy for others to single them out.
