Somehow I missed this growing up in the '80s. It's now on Netflix Instant and looks fun. Am I going to be disappointed?

I actually watched this a bunch when I was a kid.

Decent music, kind of stupid plot, interesting cinematography with a retro feel to the sets, costumes, and props.

Willem Dafoe is in it along with a much younger Diane Lane. I kind of liked Michael Pare (from Eddie & the Cruisers) when I was younger, but he's really not a very good actor. Still worth watching, IMO.

Yeah. I like Michael Pare. He's pretty synonymous with the '80s. Plus, Walter Hill, one of the best directors of his generation, directed the film.

I love how Rick Moranis gets higher billing than Willem Dafoe (who is not billed at all) in the trailer.

Is this the one that was advertised as "Leader of the Pack steals Queen of the Bop and Soldier Boy comes home to do something about it?" I saw it waaaay back when, but the trailer isn't really ringing any bells for me. I'm gettin old, though...

Don't think so. If nothing else it's interesting.

Kind of an Escape From New York meets a dumbed-down Johnny Mnemonic with music. Or Warriors interrupting Strange Days.

Enjoy!

I really like Streets of Fire. Funny, I just found out in the past week or so that it was a white guy (Dan Hartman) who sang "I Can Dream About You" and not those 4 black guys in the movie. I love that song, and everytime I've heard over the years I've visualized those guys in the movie singing it. But they were lip synching to Dan Hartman's voice. That's kinda weird for me now.

I found this out because I recently saw David Naughton in a tv show and thought he sang "Instant Replay" in the 70's. Well, after a quick search I found it was Dan Hartman who sang Instant Replay, and that's when I found out Hartman also sang "I Can Dream About You".

Weird, I know the title but seeing that trailer makes me think I ever saw it.

Maybe I stayed away from Pare movies in the 80's because he was so typecast as Eddie and the Cruisers. In fact, I expected to hear On the Darkside in that trailer.

I remember this movie fondly, not sure how it would hold up now. Though, ya gotta love a 19 year old Diane Lane!

Haven't seen it in awhile. Looked it up on imdb and was surprised by all the names I recognized in the cast. For example, one of the back up guys in the Sorels, would later tell Forrest Gump he wanted to go home.

Lee Ving played the sidekick bad guy to Willem Dafoe. Ving was the lead singer of the punk band known as FEAR. He was one of my idols growing up. I also had fantasies about the chick dancing in the Bombers hangout when i was young.

I was the same about the Dan hartman discovery. I also have always loved Diane lane since the outsiders and streets of fire.

Didn't want to make a new thread since I remember starting this one. Can't believe I had posted this so long ago and just now got around to watching it tonight on Netflix Instant!

Everyone was right on about the movie. Talk about a buried gem! Loved everything about it!

Useless trivia: Diane Lane turned down Darryl Hannah's role in Splash in order to make Streets of Fire.

I love the big musical numbers at the beginning and the end. It's exactly what would've happened if Bonnie Tyler ever made a rock opera. Also the Stevie Nicks-written "Sorcerer" somewhere in the middle of the film.

Also - The blonde bimbo chick "biggest fan" (not the mechanic, obviously) is the voice of a couple of the Rugrats.

Wait...so did David Naughton not sing " I'm a Pepper,..." in the commercial? If not, I would be disappoint, son.
