The University of Missouri announced Friday afternoon that head coach Gary Pinkel will be resigning after the season due to health concerns.

Pinkel was diagnosed in May 2015 with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
quote:

"I made the decision in May, after visiting with my family, that I wanted to keep coaching, as long as I felt good and had the energy I needed," Pinkel said in the statement. "I felt great going into the season, but also knew that I would need to re-assess things at some point, and I set our bye week as the time when I would take stock of the future."

Good. He's obviously lost control of his team when the players are deciding whether they'll play or not.

"I also hate it for Mizzou which has had such difficulty lately."

Pinkel is largely to blame for much of that difficulty, and he no doubt, is still in denial of that fact. He made a bad decision because he wanted his players to "like him" rather than respect him. It's a sad time for Mizzou/Pinkel in many ways and Pinkel bears much of the responsibility.

I find it hard to believe this isn't related to the crap going on at Mizzou right now.

Sad to see something terrible happen to a good man. I can't thank Gary Pinkel enough for all that he has done for this program. He came to Mizzou and gave our program life again. He gave us an era of success that this program hasn't had in a long time. Five 10+ win seasons and 4 Division Titles in the last 8 years. Seven 1st round draft picks since 2009. Gary Pinkel, the most winning coach in Missouri history. Thanks Gary Pinkel...for everything.
