LSU junior receiver Malachi Dupre plans to enter the 2017 NFL draft, according to a report from Tony Pauline on DraftAnalyst.com.

Dupre has not formally made an announcement yet and the deadline to declare isn't until Jan. 16.

Pauline suggests that junior safety Jamal Adams will also declare for the upcoming draft and has already begun interviewing agents.
quote:

Safety Jamal Adams has been interviewing a lot of agents and will enter the draft. I expect Tigers coach Ed Orgeron to give Adams the hard sell in an attempt to get him to return.

Several people have told me Adams will be joined by teammate Malachi Dupree as the receiver is also set to enter the draft. Entering the season I stamped Dupree as a first round prospect but his play was slightly disappointing this year.
Dupre was expected to have a breakout season this year but struggled early on with many dropped passes.

The New Orleans native led the team this season in both receptions (34) and yards (454) and tied with DJ Chark for the most touchdowns catches (3).

Why should he come back other than to finish his degree? He was targeted Les & Les and had his worst production this year. He was the #1 ESPN WR and will go 1st round w/43" Vertical. Scouts know he played in an Off ranked 120th, 119th, 120th in Pass Atts w/17 TDs in 2014, 13 TDs 2015, & only 10 TDs 2016. Dupre caught 14 of those TDs: 5 in 2014 (4 from Harris in early limited PT), 6 in 2015, and a career low of 3 TDS in 2016. He had 5 100+ yd games, 4 with Harris. 10 of his TDs were thrown by Brandon Harris. In 2014 MD&BH connected on 4 Comp/2 TDs /120 yds vs MSST in 60 seconds. That set 3 LSU records. Dupre & Dural both said they would not have come here if they had known that their main assignment would be blocking for LF's Heisman campaign. Les said he could "use Dupre & Dural as decoys to attract 4 defenders and then crush the Defense running LF up the middle".

I just don't see it yet for him to leave early. Possibly 5th round at best, showed flashes, but needs work on separation and toughness. Also showed the ability to drop balls, is he better off going or staying, I say stay, but he has to do what he believes is best for him. Good luck with your decision, as O say's HOLD THAT TIGER!

Dupre will follow his friend, Adams, and probably enter draft

Another WR wasted by Les. Good luck young man.

I hated seeing Les jumping off the sidelines and slapping the damn ball out of his hands too.

If you stay another year, Malachi, your draft $tock will be higher this same time next season. It's a tough decision. Best of luck, young man!

Malachi is likely gone, but If he stayed - it would be a Win win for LSU and him IMO

Right now, he's easily a second round pick. I hope he stays, but if he does, his draft stock could fall farther if Etling struggles. He might not want to hitch his wagon to Etlings. I really do hope he comes back tho. I believe our passing game will be a lot better under Canada. It can't get any worst the Cameron and Miles can it...nah it can't. I betting its a lot better!

Trey Quinn drops passes and gets benched. Malachi drops passes and might enter the draft...

We would be in good shape at WR if he came back. I hope he does.

He needs to catch more passes

He has the talent, but he needs to stay another year. This is a huge mistake on his part. We're talking about the difference between a first round pick and a fifth round pick.

I agree he needs to stay, but there's no way Dupre is on the board in the 5th round!

Absolutely. He could absolutely free fall. He's essentially going in on meaurables alone.

Let him geaux. We need a receiver in his spot who will NOT drop balls.

You're an arse! Why don't you get out there big guy. He had his struggles, but has turned it around. I do think he needs to come back, but he's not.

Dupre is not ready. Guys like Richard Sherman will have a field day with him. Hell Delvin Breaux will have field day with him.

He has an iffy qb situation that could further drop his stock. Leave and get the money.....look at dural.

Iffy? Etling threw for nearly 2,000 yards and didn't play in W1 and we lost another rent a win bs USA. He would have had 2300 yards or so in his first action in 2 years with a full season. More if he was getting 1st team reps in Spring/Fall.

if he dont leave, he may not start. i see several receivers better than him coming up. he is definitely no better than #2 behind Chark

Adams leaving is a no brainer. A top 5 pick for sure! Dupre leaving would just be no brain. You don't enter the draft after the horrible season he had. Too many dropped passes and inconsistent play all season after a good sophomore season, he didn't progress. I would be very surprised if he made it in the NFL at this point. Still, he has the size and someone will take a chance on him. Best of luck either way.

You've got to be kidding that you'd be surprised he would make it in the NFL. He has the measurables to KILL it. His stock dropped this year, sure but he's had a much better college career than Russell Shepard and has better attributes. He'll be fine.. just not drafted like his talents should have him at.

I can name a plethora of receivers who either A.) are not in the league and B.) those who are in the league and barely hanging on.... So measureables mean absolutely didly squat...At the present time Malachi is an unpolished route runner and has been inconsistent with drops all year. It would better if MD came back under coach Craig and learn more about being a polished receiver at the next level... It's better than being a late round pick with hardly no guaranteed money and struggling to stay on an NFL roster

Russell Shepard is a beast on special teams - that's why he made an NFL roster. Dupre doesn't do ST.

Draft status will improve IMMENSELY if you stay for another year.

Doesn't really matter. If he's drafted in the 2nd round, he can hit free agency earlier (first round picks have a team option for additional year), while he's 1 year younger than he would be if he stayed another year.
user avatar
jayboy50488 months
Absolutely true blueboxer.... Although I'm not even sure MD's a second rounder right now....I could be wrong but I think he's probably waiting on a grade from the advisory board
