LSU reporter Emily Dixon recently caught up with Les Miles after practice on Thursday and talked with him about this weeks' preparation heading into the home opener against Jacksonville State.

One of the questions Dixon asked Miles was what he has seen from both LSU quarterbacks Brandon Harris and Danny Etling throughout this week of practice.
quote:

"Both quarterbacks have thrown the ball better this week than they did weeks prior," Miles said. "Both have a little edge. They want to play, there is competition there. It's all good."

Steve says there is competition for the Head Coaching position at LSU

It is not possible for each QB to have an edge on each other. What he said does not make any sense.

Maybe he meant both are playing edgy.. You know.. Miles speak. The sad part is that I am actually beginning to be able to translate it.

The competition for QB should have been over before season started . I don't think Les is capable of setting up a winning offence.

As long as there are 2 O-linemen and 3 blind girls blocking, we may as well hike it to Fournette.

Literally impossible for both quarterbacks to have an "edge" on each other. That doesn't make any freaking sense but that is expected coming from Les

If he won't do something different, the next best thing is to say something different I guess.

Miles, like McFarland & Spears tell you, you play in a phone booth and are Stone Age. The Wisc loss is a new low, an OOC loss, scoring less pts than in the 3 game skid that got you fired. Miles is so clueless, obtuse, and pigheaded he is blaming Harris, the #1 DTQB when he committed, who would be a Heisman contender at CLEM, HOU, or any offensive-minded school. LF only had 35 yds on 11 carries in the first half, got re-injured, and Guice fumbled. The only scoring drive was 49 yds, 2 plays in 16 seconds - Tempo and Spread, aka, Scheme helps. Miles/Cam did not open the offense or visit other programs as they promised. They set new lows for Pass ATTs in 2014-15, ranking last in the SEC and 120th in the FBS, with the slowest, least spread, 1-dimensional 'O' 3 yrs running, a 9-9 SEC-W, 14-10 SEC record. The Ravens fired Cam for his 5-yr failure to develop an offensive identity, develop Flacco or protect him, no tempo, spread, or Passing game. His 3-WR utilization (28%) was the lowest in the NFL, long isolation routes into double teams. Miles/Cam lost 3 consecutive SEC West games in double-digit blowouts not seen since 1966. Dinardo lost 3 SEC games in 1999, 2 yrs after he let his "Chavis" DC go and he was fired like Miles was after ARK, sans a Jindal/Stanley Jacobs political crony pardon. Miles blamed player execution not his Coaching, said he did not give a damn, was not going to change, and would continue to pick the plays that fit his out-dated scheme, confirming what other coaches, and his own coaches say - It is not the players, but his stubborn, pigheaded, failure to evolve. QBs & WRs "come to LSU & block for Leonard" was openly voiced frustration by Dural, Dupre, Tyron Johnson, Quinn and by a TEAM whose skill players were under-utilized in pursuit of a Heisman.

"Both have a little edge" ? Wtf?! That means nothing at all. Les, I can't wait until someone talks down to you, like you're an idiot. I hope that happens to you, because you've been doing it to the fans for how long now? I'd rather you never speak, period.

Please quit reporting these and quit asking Coach Miles football related questions. Ask he what he actually is interested in at this point in his life, which is Thanksgiving left overs, bowling, vacationing. The man has no interest or knowledge of his current football team.

I do not believe he is stating there is a qb competition. He is using his weird syntax to state they are competing as in he only means they are both giving maximum effort. In no way do I believe there is an open qb battle.

"Both have a little edge". I don't think this constitutes bragging rights.

The QB's are playing for free, how about we have competition at the Head Coach position ($4 Mil/year).

This is Les subtly implying that QB play (i.e Harris) is to be blamed for the loss and upcoming season. By giving fans 'hope' that the backup QB could get in there, he's simply saying 'I don't have a good qb and that's why we're losing'. He knows his job is on the line.

And if he is going to have competition at the position then give Lindsey Scott a chance. All we know about Etling is he's a transfer from Purdue that couldn't start who has looked good in practice. Every QB we have looks good in practice. I mean after all the interception that ended the game last week was a completion in practice per Les. Wow! A completion in practice? Is that even relevant? NO! This is not about the QB by itself. It is about creating an offense for the quarterbacks to be able to be successful. Stop asking Les about it. He doesn't know the answer and Cameron doesn't have a clue. So tired of this. If it's not breakdown at QB it's a breakdown on the offensive line or WR's dropping the ball or the Tight End not remotely involved, or the RB's running into 9 man fronts. It's all of it.

What a vague way to even answer the question. This is not about the quarterback position in and of itself. This is about using the tools the quarterback possesses in an offense that fits his talent. Miles and Cameron will never stop sending 2 receivers out 40 yards and forcing our quarterbacks to fit a ball into a small window. He will never attack defenses using the Tight End and backs out of the backfield and receivers at the same time. It's all a big joke. He will continue to run into 9 man fronts.
