John Chavis Case Reveals List Of LSU Defensive Coordinator Candidates

Documents filed this week by LSU for the court case between LSU and former defensive coordinator John Chavis revealed a list of candidates that were contacted or interviewed to replace Chavis. Per The Advocate:

During his search for a defensive coordinator last January, LSU coach Les Miles met with Wisconsin defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, Penn State’s Bob Shoop, Oklahoma’s Mike Stoops and Georgia Tech’s Ted Roof.

The report also says that Miles considered contacting North Carolina defensive coordinator and former Auburn coach Gene Chizik, Louisville’s Todd Grantham, Clemson’s Brent Venables and then-Georgia defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.

Also mentioned was former Florida head coach and Auburn coordinator Will Muschamp who is now the head coach at South Carolina.

The fact that we ended up with Steele tells me there is something going on behind "closed doors" that makes no good candidate want to come here.

@TheEye I would agree on the short term. We got Steele because he will stay since nobody else would hire him as a DC. It's a safe bet he will be here until fired or retirement.

I can only assume that they felt most of those guys were only going to be here a couple years before they got head coach jobs. Steele is a ways away from that. Proof of this is Boom. I'm not saying I agree with the strategy, but I think it pretty a good thing to consider. It's also possible they turned us down.
