LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said Wednesday that sophomore wide receiver Drake Davis is leading at returner for kickoffs and punts.

Also in the mix at the returner position is wide receiver Derrick Dillon, cornerback Donte Jackson, and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Per The Advocate:
quote:

“Drake Davis has been doing a lot of it,” Orgeron said about the return game. “Derrick Dillon is doing some. Donte Jackson is doing some. Those guys are doing a good job. When Clyde Edwards-Helaire is healthy, we’re going to put them back there. He had several great kickoff returns against our first unit (last week). He busted one to the 40-yard line. We’re going to give him a good shot.”

I really like that Coach O is emphasizing special teams. Remember the difference Trindon Holliday made? Not to mention Brad Wing, Colt David, etc... Could be the difference in a close SEC slug fest. Or any game, for that matter.

I liked the results the last time we had a highly skilled soccer player playing WR and returning kicks

Went to scrimmage with the LSU Women's Soccer team - Davis and Gamble were out there tearing the field apart. Trying to guard Davis on the field is a tough task - dude is fast as hell. Him returning kicks would be sick. Anything in space and...he gone.
