College Spun put together a list of College Football’s 10 most iconic uniforms and LSU was ranked No. 8.
quote:

8) LSU

The Tigers have one of the most beautiful color combinations in all of college football. Legend has it that LSU’s color scheme originated in 1893 because stores around Baton Rouge were selling gold and purple streamers (the green ones weren’t delivered yet) for Mardi Gras. Fast forward 121 years later, and those colors have stayed the same, making LSU one of the most easily recognizable teams in college football.

The team’s decision to wear gold pants every week is unique, as is its decision to wear white uniforms at home. But the team’s best look is the striking purple top with gold pants and a gold helmet – one of the best kits in all of college football. LSU’s helmet decals will be changing a bit in 2014 to match the school’s new logo, but it doesn’t take much away from the classic look.
The complete list:

1. Alabama
2. Penn State
3. Notre Dame
4. Michigan
5. Texas
6. Nebraska
7. Ohio State
8. LSU
9. Florida
10. USC

the Michigan fella is proud of his school uniforms the only thing I remember about the uniforms is that the helmet has got ugly stripes on it !

Michigan would've been #1 pre ~2009. They have made some horrible changes to their unis, which, by definition, make them less iconic.

I don't like red but then again bama, could ruin any color !

Can't wait as time passes and those shitty dull uniforms like Pen St lose their luster. Nothing "iconic" about Texas, Penn St, Nebraska, etc...just cause they were the only ones shown on TV for 30 years, doesn't make them iconic

Don't understand why some think the most generic/plain uniforms are iconic....The schools have tradition, but the uniforms are similar to the pomp and circumstance of a solo cup.

Sorry bit any list where Michigan isn't #1 is voided. There is not a more iconic college uniform.

pretty respectable list actually. Of course I would put bama at #1 on top 10 most vomit inducing uniforms but I'm a bit biased

would put several over UF, certainly Oklahoma's.

"the team’s best look is the striking purple top with gold pants and a gold helmet"

Nope. Gold/White/Gold. Purple's good, but the good guys wear white.
