LSU's last 10 games have been similar in 1 way; road games have been losses and home games have been wins. LSU looks to continue that trend when they get Mississippi State at home Wednesday night. Mississippi State has yet to win a true road game this year and have lost their last 7 throwing them into a tie for last place in the conference.
Last week was a blow for the Tigers post season aspirations. After losses on the road at Texas A&M and Arkansas, it looks like LSU will miss the dance for the 5th straight year. Still, LSU is only 1 game out of the coveted 4th place in conference. The top 4 seeds get 2 round SEC Tournament byes making a Tourney run much more likely.
Mississippi State has been bad. They are last in the conference in two specific areas that should vault LSU to victory. The Bulldogs are shooting only 29.5% from three point range in SEC play (14th) while LSU's defense has allowed a shockingly high 40.9% from three point range (14th). Also, Mississippi State has allowed opponents in conference to shoot 57.0% from inside the arc (14th). LSU needs to feed the ball inside to their big men and attack the paint.
Mississippi State has lost 6 of their last 7 games by double figures. They do not have a player who can really go off and carry the team. They have only had two instances of a player scoring 20 points in SEC play. LSU has had two in the last two games.
Craig Sword (PG) leads their team in scoring with 12.8 points per game. The only other double figure scorer is 6'9" 270 post player Gavin Ware with 10.6 PPG. They have played the 4th fastest tempo in the SEC so this game could get moving. Mississippi State only has 3 players over 6'5" tall on their roster so expect LSU to really try and take advantage of their height inside and on the wing with Jarell Martin.
This game has blowout written all over it. No better way to get on track like a home game versus State. If LSU comes out focused, we could see some Shortess in this one. Prediction:
LSU 85, Mississippi St 61
