Mellow Mushroom Reviews (4)

Still no good
by ComicTiger on 7/19/11
The food was poor quality from the get go and based on a couple of recent trips, it hasn't improved. This location is very close by and I travel further to Pastime, Fleur de Lis and Johnnys if I want pizza.

Cleanliness is also an issue.

I think they are happy being a bar and making tons of money on LSU students at night, which they are welcome to do.

Not what it used to be.

When Mellow Mushroom first opened around 7 or 8 years ago, the pizza was in the running for the best in town and was up there with the some of the best I had ever had. I ate there recently and was rather underwhelmed by the food and the place smelled like old dried up beer and liquor. Which goes along with their emphasis on being a bar rather than a restaurant. The pizza is not what it used to be and it is not up to par with other Mushroom locations. I would still recommend it if you want pizza and a beer and are in the area, but there are certainly better spots in town for the same.

Crust

This has to be the best crust I've ever had. Hands down it's one of my favorite pizzas ever!

Not just for night-life!

It seems when most people think of Mellow-Mushroom, the image of drunk co-eds on karaoke night instantly passes through the mind of most college aged people. But the thought that Mellow Mushroom actually serves a great (pizza)pie along with your favorite spirit is something that most don't realize.
I would strongly recommend the stuffed Portobello mushroom cap as an appetizer. It's artichoke hearts and sun-dried tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette dressing go hand-in-hand.

As for the main course, you can't go wrong with any of their specialty pies. My personal favorite is the House Special, a pizza with everything on it.
