Apolline Reviews (1)
 |
Disappointed

I went to Apolline about a month ago for a friend's birthday dinner. We had a group of about 10, none of which had previously dined at Apolline. Here's a breakdown of my experience:

- We had reservations for 9:00 on a Saturday. It was one of the colder days of the year (low 30's), so we were expecting to be seated promptly. Well, we waited 45 minutes before our makeshift table was constructed. We didn't place our drink order til 10:00, and didn't receive our food til after 10:30. There's absolutely no place to go if you don't have a table, so our group was left to block the restaurant's entrance which was a pain for not only us, but for anyone trying to enter or leave. Sitting outside was not an option due to the weather.

- I skipped ordering a drink since I had a good bit of day-drinking on my stomach, so I simply ordered my meal. I had the Lamb Osso Bucco that was pretty tasty, but the veal glace was too salty, and the portion size was a bit disappointing. Overall, I felt the entree did not live up to the $28 price tag. The majority of the table got the KC Strip, which everyone seemed pleased with.

- The restaurant is a little hard to find (the sign is not incredibly visible), but on-street parking is not an issue. The restaurant's ambiance was pleasant - perfect for a date night.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend the restaurant because:

A. The wait was absurd, and the staff didn't seem too particularly concerned that we were inconvenienced. The manager came and spoke to us after the meal, but did not offer any sort of apology. In fact, he essentially bragged about how well the restaurant was doing.

B. There's plenty of restaurants in the city with better food, service and atmosphere for the same price.
