New Senior Bowl executive director Phil Savage thinks certain juniors should be able to play in the Senior Bowl. Savage suggested...
quote:

Under Savage's idea, Senior bowl eligibility for players listed as juniors would be limited to those who meet four criteria: A player must declare early for the NFL draft, be graduated by December, be with a program for four years and have the blessing of his college coach.

"With redshirts and medical redshirts, that kind of blurs the line of who's a senior and who's not," Savage said Monday. "They're not a junior or a senior - they're graduated.

"We're not interested in taking third-year juniors," he added. "We want to reward the players who have done well on the field and checked all the boxes off the field."
The NFL is very cautious about the idea...
quote:

"They do not even want to have a hint of (allowing juniors)," he said of the NFL's stance up to now, "because then they'll have 95 juniors declare because they'll say, 'Hey, I can go play in the all-star game.'"
You think certain juniors should be eligible?

If he has a degree and unequivocally declares for the draft, I think a player should be eligible.

I understand whwre the NFL is coming from in having a bunch of juniors declare early with the thought that the Allstar game could help their draft status but I would hope that those guys who worked their tales off and wete smart enough to graduate early would be smart enough to no that one allstar game would not be enough to elevate them from day a fifth round pick to a second round pick

@SG_Geaux - what a stupid comment. You don't think players should be rewarded for graduating?

I think it is a stupid idea. Sure, let's give players extra rewards and kudos for leaving school early.
